If I’m Mississippi State, I’m calling either Kansas or KStates coaches.

Both have had success at programs equal to or less than MSU. Blue collar, smart coaches that have proven to do more with less talent.

Either of those coaches with SEC talent would be scary.

Thoughts?

Agreed - seem like perfect fits. Either one.

I wanted to fire Moorhead after year one to hire Kleiman. Then Kleiman goes to Kstate and physically whoops us in Starkville his first year at KState. He's making pretty good where he's at. And now with OU and Texas out, he has an easy path to conference titles. I can't see him leaving.

That's a pretty good point. Throw in the 12 team playoff scenarios, and his shot at getting to a playoff is significantly easier at KSU.

Do they have ties to the South, if not, then no. You have to be able to recruit the South.

Miss State isn’t a significantly better job than KSU. They are closer to top talent beds, but how many do they get after Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and now Ole Miss get their picks?

Klieman can consistently win 8-10 games at KSU, which will give him a job for life. Winning enough to satisfy MSU fans is alot harder, because they’re less established as a program and their rivals are tougher

MSU is certainly a better job than Kansas, but Leopold can go 6-6 every year there and have a job for life. I don’t think that will fly at Starkville

If they want more pressure and a chance at bigger rewards, maybe they’d go for it. But that’s not the easiest place to coach. Mullen and Leach were solid coaches

Place like State is different, though. They're never gonna win big recruiting battles anyway outside a few in-state. You have to be able to identify the 2nd tier kid at a place like that, and guys like Klineman and Leipold have proven to be excellent at that.

State people dont like my take on this but we need a Mullen-like coach.

Mullen was absolute best at taking a 2 or 3 star player from BFE and turning them into a great SEC player. That's the only way to be successful at Mississippi State. Will it win championships? No, but it will get to bowl games and every few years we can make a run at a 12 team playoff.

Johnthan Banks played at a 1A school and barely got a look. He won the Thorpe award as the nation's best defensive back.

Fletcher Cox was from the middle of nowhere and got some looks late, but he turned out to be awesome.

Darius Slay had an offer from Troy when Mullen offered.

Dak Prescott was overlooked from a small school.

Nick Fitzgerald's only other offer was Chattanooga.

What he did with Chris Relf in 2010 should get him in the Hall of Fame.

Either of those coaches would be a homerun if they could get them.

Would be totally on board with either one, but not banking on it.

Mullen can coach offense. It was his recruiting that kept him from reaching the top. But hell no on Mullen, like I mentioned before, Tom Herman is the same thing plus he would have a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.

One of my friends took his kid to camps at Arkansas, KState, Tulsa, Ark State and few others. He had offers at Ark and KState as PWO, but chose a FCS school. He was shocked that KState had better facilities than Arkansas.

KState has nice facilities, NIL money, big donors, and their endowment is more or as big than 4 or 5 SEC schools. Don’t know about Kansas football facilities.

A coach at KState can stay and have job security and occasionally make the playoffs or move to one of the SEC school’s where they will be fired after a few years.

cdawg- I went to grad school in the 60's at K-State and suffered lean years. Please leave Kleiman alone.

If I was MSU or A&M I would go after Kellen Moore.

With his NFL experience 6 as a player and 6 as a coach he will be a great recruiter.

He is probably making less than a million as a NFL OC
