If Baylor keeps improving LSU should make it right and try to bring Aranda back

Aranda should've been the coach after Les Miles any way.

Legitimately not a bad idea

I'm surprised he wasn't at least a candidate.

I have to think he'll get a very strong look when O is let go.

If he still has Baylor ranked he will be the #1 candidate if O is let go

If I remember correctly Aranda was the assistant head coach in addition to being DC under Les Miles. I have to think it was Louisiana politics that allowed Orgeron to jump over Aranda to become interim and then permanent head coach. Orgeron's stint as interim at USC shouldn't have made that much of a difference in comparison to a guy like Aranda.

I would take Aranda in a heartbeat.

Why would he downgrade from Baylor though?

I don’t understand why Aranda was the assistant head coach and they went with the dline coach

O had already been at LSU for a full season prior and had served as recruiting coordinator.
He also had head coaching experience and had a good stint as the interim head coach at USC.
Aranda had no head coaching experience and was only 4 games into his first season at LSU.

Interim coach who didn't coach a full season. If you look at Orgeron's full body of work (Ole Miss) he shouldn't have sniffed being interim let alone permanent head coach at LSU. But, you got 2019 though. It was a great season for you.

Well, yes but that mostly happened in November 2015 when politics between the governor and the school prez led to complete paralysis when it came time to fire Miles.
As for O, he said himself he knew he was the 3rd or 4th choice when all better options (Herman, Jimbo) fell through. Of course it didn't hurt that O was Team "One of Us" and he had prior experience as HC and was still a tremendous recruiter.
I'm sure the AD figured he already had Aranda on staff and the real problem was getting an OC. Nobody could've predicted when Aranda would leave. It wasn't for lack of compensation.
Honestly, USC should be looking long and hard at Aranda (and maybe they are). He is a SoCal guy. Maybe he brings his old buddy Tom Herman with him.

Baylor is 4-0 but they have played a pretty soft schedule. The ISU win was good no doubt, but the next 7 games are pretty tough imo..
@ 4-0 Oklahoma State
vs 2-2 West Virginia
vs 4-0 BYU
vs 3-1 Texas
@ 2-1 TCU
vs 4-0 Oklahoma
@ 3-1 Kansas State
We will know more soon.. but they do appear to be better than last year.
Interesting stat I heard about TCU this week.
Gary Patterson is 2-8 straight up and 0-8-2 ATS the week before the Texas game.

Aranda is a great coach and a high character guy.

Well that's all they were looking for at that point.
An interim.
Why put your top shelf DC in that role (with no experience) and risk losing him if he doesn't get the HC role?
I don't think Alleva ever planned on hiring the interim as the permanent HC.

The question is whether he can recruit at a high level.

Aranda isn't proven enough for Woodward I don't think. And he's not a bad recruiter, but he's definitely not a great one. His personality is perfect for DC.
I wouldn't melt if we hired him if he puts together a 9-10 win season at Baylor or something like that, but I wouldn't have him in my top 5 candidates.
And make no mistake, this will be Ed Orgeron's last year at LSU.
