Seriously, I doubt we could afford it. Our horrible AD gave Gus a large buyout and extension last year. If he does go 0-8 and then starts off bad next year, he gone.
this, plus, I can't imagine that Gus won't be given a 2nd year with muschamp

I agree. I've said this before, but Auburn has no business being as good as we typically are given our circumstances.
Gus won't get fired unless he losses the team, and only if we are ok with shoving out 9 million for a buy out because our AD likes to shower coaches with gold after one good season. He'll be around next year, and that's probably a good thing for us tbh.

is Gus seriously not on the hot seat?
They'll turn on Gus so fast it'll make his head spin. Look at how fast they turned on every other coach they've ever had. There is no loyalty at Auburn, they just want to be Alabama.

The 0-8 wasn't the only reason the last coaching staff was sent packing. The problems were much bigger than simply loosing. There were a lot of signs pointing towards other issues in 2012 than we have now. Things do change, but if the team shows some fight the rest of the way he won't be fired even if they go 0-8.
As has been stated Gus may not be the long term answer but Auburn needs to stick to a plan for a bit. The constant turnover isn't good for Auburn and it reflects Bama's struggles pre-saban without the lowest of lows that are explained in this thread by the fact that Auburn's ability to be relevant is an accomplishment in and of itself.

I honestly think this game will set the tone for the rest of the season. It could go either way
Could be, but I sort of expect that we'll either win or lose in a close, mediocre fashion that doesn't show any sign of significant decline or improvement, and we'll be saying the same shite about the Arky game.

I agree. The team hasn't shown much reason to think they are going to figure things out. Defense seems closer than offense, but it sounds weird to say that post Tubbs.

I still think Gus is a good coach and will figure it out. I say give him another year and see if he can recover.

I agree. There are glaring weaknesses on the team that aren't going to be solved in one game, and will most likely linger all season. And 2 of the glaring weaknesses are at spot you don't want to have them - QB and DL. Perhaps if Lawson returns it'll solve the DL issue somewhat.

How did the entire country completely whiff on them? Many thought that they were the most legitimate SEC contender for the Playoffs. They are downright horrible and should have lost to Jacksonville State.

Gus poured out a lot of pre-season koolaid.
He really did....That's the thing...he really talked up this team, Johnson, Boom etc. and then has woefully under-delivered.
Given his buy-out I can't imagine they would fire him this season him after the Chizik debacle. It's pretty unthinkable.

-2.5 against Kentucky is as good as being an underdog IMO.
Then your opinion is shite. While it is nothing to brag about, giving points to anyone means you are a favorite. That is a fact, and with facts, opinions means nothing.
The rest of your post seems correct. AU has collapsed this season. I am hoping for a turn around, starting tonight.

I think if we opened up the playbook and if the QB (whoever it is) ran it well, it would both obviously spark the offense and aid the defense. It won't cure the offense or defense, but a QB running a less predictable offense with a solid run game would likely turn this into the 7-5, 8-4 type of team we'd like to be considering our predicament.
Now, I'm not saying we'd hit those records even if these things happen, considering one of those wins likely should have come from MSU, but it would at least let us compete on that level for the remainder of the season.
Whether that happens at any point, I don't know. But I do think that (confidence in a single QB and letting him operate a more varied playbook) gets us the most mileage in the short term. Of course, Gus claims he's going to play 3 QBs so who the frick knows.

You may be right about the Kentucky game, but your game against Arkansas won't be close. Bert is gonna run the score up because it will likely be his only chance to do that all season.

Having a "sure-thing" QB running a high scoring offense will get you a lot of hype.

He did in private, he definitely didn't in public.

I have heard statemenst to the contrary. Sure he wasn't out raving about his team but he lavished a lot of pre-season praise on Johnson specifically...and Gus' forte is offense
