If Alabama does worse than 11-2 and #5 next year, does Les Miles finally get credit?

Or, 11-2 and a #3 finish in Deboer’s second year? Or, 12-2 and a national championship in his 3rd year?

Les Miles set the standard on how to follow Saban and build on the foundation that Saban left. Is Deboer as good as Les Miles? Or will the results be worse?

Just asking for posterity’s sake.

Debore will fail and Alabana hires Les Miles.

They will be desperate to be winners again.

Did Les deal with the transfer portal and NIL when he took the job?

To be fair, and I really hate to in this instance, times are a little different now.

OP’s question is totally fair considering the way this board talked about Les in those years.

Many things have changed since then, many many things.

Les wouldn’t have played for a natty with those 2 losses for one.

Following Saban at LSU and being successful after one title and resurrecting a program that had been irrelevant for a generation should be a harder thing to do than following Saban at Bama after that many titles at a historically championship-winning program.

If DeBoer finishes worse than 11-2 and #5 in year one, it’s a fact that Miles is better and LSU is more attractive.

Uh what? We're going to have a twelve team playoff next year, he'd definitely have a chance

Tell us more about how the transfer portal and NIL hurts Bama more than other schools.

The next national champion could theoretically have three losses if chaos ensues in the final couple weeks of the season again. Pretty unlikely but I’m sure it would be possible.

Yeah, 2 loss teams making the playoff are about to become common, not some freak aberration like 2007.

No but there was a shitload of what Saban would so lovingly refer to as “clutter” due to Katrina and Rita

I always thought that season would’ve driven him crazy if he would’ve been the coach. The post practice rants would’ve been epic.

Why did Saban do so much better at Alabama than at LSU?

Les set a standard in terms of reprehensible behavior towards women, that DeBoer will thankfully fall far short of.

Next year, the first year post saban, we’ll have a 12 team playoff… 2 and possibly 3 loss teams will be able to reach the national title match. The new guy will arguably have an easier path. Alabama also had over a decade of sustainability vs saban at LSU. If dude bear doesn’t make the playoffs he’s a worse coach than Miles.
