Maybe so.. or maybe they already do..

Texas for example has 0 ranked wins according to the AP and Coaches Poll.. but..

Texas has 2 ranked wins according to Sagarin.
16 Oklahoma (34-3)
20 Florida (49-17)

Texas has 3 ranked wins according to Massey.
19 Oklahoma (34-3)
22 Florida (49-17)
24 Michigan (31-12)

So which poll do you use to determine who has beaten ranked teams and who hasn't?

That's exactly what I meant by the way the basketball committee does it.

They have the NET -- which always gets tweaked -- but at least focuses attention to one criteria for comparing quality wins, bad losses, Home vs Away, etc.

It's usually pretty different than the AP/Coaches Polls with their penchant for moving teams up in any sport for not losing no matter the competition.

The talk about the college playoffs is often like these SEC Rant threads -- 50 different talking points based on different criteria that put certain teams in better or worse light.

They are in. They’re the only team in the SEC I can guarantee is in.

A lot can happen in a week, as we just saw.

It seems that your definition of “better” is subjective to whatever your eyes see.

Only Tennessee has a top 15 (Alabama) win thou. Committee has shown they value wins most.

Texas is a lock, because they can’t get a third loss; and they won’t fall far enough with a loss to A&M to drop out of the top 10 (ok maybe if they get routed, Arch is atrocious and Ewers is out for the year). Georgia can actually lose four (and they would obviously be out). A&M loses to Texas they are clearly out. Tennessee loses to Vandy they are most likely out. Ole Miss surely is out if they lose to State. Same if Bama loses to Auburn. SC is obviously out if they lose to Clemson. In other words the only lock right now is Texas.

And if Tennessee wins Saturday they will get in. IF THEY WIN. Hence, not a lock.

You make a fine point if criteria is more deserving, but I’m betting the criteria becomes about better. Realize I had a typo in the quote you lifted, sry for confusion.

But I agree that’s the comparison it’d come down to, and I think the optics of losing to A&M while Tennessee wins big against Vanderbilt would resonate
So beating Vandy is now a statement game? The goalposts keeping moving so fast even Az State fans couldn't find them to pull down.

Hahaa, NO.

The statement would be not choking away the last game of the regular season with a playoff spot on the line

Longhorn told me Archie's boy is starting and he's faster than tyreek hill. Said Aggies have no chance.

I don’t think head to head can negate a 2 loss difference.

It would be 4 loss A&M vs 2 loss Texas

Texas is definitely in. Better question is, if they lose to Aggie or get throttled by Georgia, do they stay ahead of Tennessee in the polls / 8 spot (assuming ND wins)?

Predicting a sound beating inside Kyle Field Sat, with more QB bed-wetting in store for the Horns

If this game were earlier in the season, maybe but I don’t see that. The tape is out on tamu and Texas has a vastly superior roster and vastly superior coaching staff. The experienced QB gets it done here.
