I wonder how many great athletes have wrecked their career because they wanted to play QB?

The Matt Jones/Manziel thread made me think of this…..a tale as old as time….

Didn't Jones play WR in the NFL for several yrs?

He played around at WR for a minute….had he committed to the position from the start he may have been something in the NFL.

Milroe isn't big enough for LB and he hates contact.

Milroe has a perfect form slide tackle.
But that's a defensive action that is typically seen in soccer and not football.

Plumlee at Ole Miss could’ve been the next Wes Welker.

Jones wasn't fantastic at putting out effort in practice. But... with 4 years of WR experience under his belt he might have been more ready. The real problem was his NFL coach was a hardass and the Jags, at that time, were terrible at developing young WRs. A perfect sh*t storm.
KJ Jefferson is near the top of a lot of offensive stats for Arkansas but his issues with reads and tendency to make poor decisions were not something that translates to the NFL. If he had spent his time at Arkansas playing TE, and we had a fine TE coach at that time, KJ had a body and physical tools that could have made him a valuable TE at the next level.

I think he would've been a better RB. He tried WR but didn't really progress there. Plumlee was fast and his best skill was his acceleration. He hit top speed in 3 steps which is more advantageous for a north/south runner than a slot WR trying to find a spot in a zone.
Unfortunately for him Ole Miss had a really solid RB room.

According to Perfect Game, Robby Ashford was the top baseball prospect in Alabama, was ranked No. 160 for the 2020 MLB Draft, and was recruited by Ole Miss (to play baseball).
Instead, over six years he went to Oregon, Auburn, South Carolina, and Wake Forest to try and play QB.
Nice kid, but I don't think it was the right decision.

Too many to count. Anthony Richardson for sure.
The problem is early-on anyone can play QB. HS and youth coaches stick their best athlete there.
But at the highest levels, it’s a position of elite decision-making and precision throws. The windows are tiny and require a perfectly timed release. Probably some would-be greats that sat the bench behind an athlete and never got to develop into their destiny.

That's correct. He was a RichRod recruit and flipped to Oregon when Luke's staff was fired and Lane was hired.

I believe Ole Miss wanted him to play baseball and Oregon (Cristobal) was willing to let him try dual sport.
He finally gave it up after a couple of years to focus on football, IIRC.
Who knows how it would've worked out, if at all, but I think he was better at baseball than he was at football.
