I was told most LSU fans weren't predicting a win against the Rebs

This thread proves otherwise.

All but one poster in that thread predict an LSU victory, and many of them predict a blowout.

What gives?

The line suggests that a lot of money favors LSU. We don’t know if that is a majority of bettors. It is a lot of cash.

It is odd that a ranked team is a dog to an unranked team. Seems like the dumb money would take the Rebels. That suggests to me that the smart money thinks the Tigers have it.

I've never understood what was sharp or public money or how people came to conclusions about that. I'd love an explanation if you can provide one.

I've heard Stanford Steve say sharp money comes in once the public bets a line too far in a given direction. But that's about all I know.

I don't think many rational fans expect an LSU blow out. It's going to be very difficult to slow down the Ole miss run game. Our DL is solid, but LB play has been erratic and DBs have had issues with poor tackling and blown assignments.

I expect a close game decided in the 4th off of a turnover or big play.

So you're issue is LSU fans picking LSU to win what is currently a toss up game?

Shocking!

You're not going to get a logical prediction on the Tiger Rant. You need to come here for that:

LSU by 20

I will go with Vegas and the sharps here. I’m assuming most others are as well.

We get some excited fans over there at the rant that just like to talk shite about OM. I’m sure you know that most overall think there is good chance we can lose this game.

To be fair, if you do that with almost any fanbase that has confidence, if the game is essentially a pick em then the fans will think their own team will win. Vegas is technically predicting an LSU win with LSU being -1.5 so it's not crazy that LSU fans would predict a win

Say the line is very close, like LSU -1.5. Now say 70% of the people who bet put money on Ole Miss. That has to mean that remaining 30% made pretty large bets, or the line would be in favor of Ole Miss.

When I see a small number of bets pushing a line one way, I tend to think it is large bettors who know what they are doing making those bets.

LSU isn’t consistent or good.
Wish it was at Ole Miss

And yet they are favored over Ole Miss, go figure.

LSU is favored by ESPN FPI. LSU is #11 in the FPI and Ole Miss is #8. The only reason LSU is not ranked is the Seminoles. LSU is only ranked 2 or 3 spots behind OM per any decent computer poll. This issue is not one of OM being overrated but of LSU being severely underated.

OM is an underdog per the computers based on the game being in Baton Rouge. On a nuetrual field, OM would have a slight edge and probably be a 3 point favorite.

FPI has LSU's win probability at 51.3% and has LSU targeted at LSU -2.

If you lose this game, you gave it away.
