I pride myself on my knowledge of football history but I scratch my head wondering how we came up with USC rather than Clemson? Was Clemson dead at the time?

SCar was independent and the next best choice for eastern expansion after both FSU and Miami chickened out.

These were the southeastern independents at the time:

FSU
Miami
Southwestern Louisiana, aka ULL
South Carolina
Louisiana Tech
Louisville
ECU
Southern Miss
Memphis State, aka Memphis

Even when they has George Rogers they were barely above average. Clemson had carved out some football cred with Charley Pell and Danny Ford at the time. Including a national title.

Texas A$M, Arkansa, So Car and Mizzo have contributed nothing or very little to the betterment of the SEC.

These two expanded the SEC footprint by 40%, which equates to money for everyone. I know everyone's a purist, but it's mostly about the dollars now....and we bring them.

Mizzou has played for two SEC championships. More than majority of the other members.

That’s what you’re hanging your hat on? A couple division titles from a decade ago? El oh el

Disagree atm has been the best sec expansion team thus far. No one knows mizzou is in the conference and usce can’t even bring the best football in a state they flagship for. Arky feels like sec but atm was a better football add

How many times has Tennessee won the east in that time span? How many heismans does Tennessee have in that time span?

By using that logic, the only relevant SEC programs are Bama LSU Florida Auburn and Georgia. The rest are trash.

No we’re talking post expansion. I should have left off Florida and Auburn actually.

This was the Golden age for the conference where it was a tight knit family. Just as it was in 1932 when a Super conference was divided creating 2 separate Conferences (because of expensive logistics in a trying economy) I can see a time when history will repeat itself.

Not all that old, otherwise he would have included Tulane and Ga. Tech as part of the conference good old days.
