I can call it a bad panic hire without having to tell you exactly who and when.
Sorry I wont sit in your little false dilemma box, thay may work with your low IQ peers.

Again. We don’t need to identify better options to acknowledge that this was a bad one.
Nobody here is paid to make these searches. But they made a rash decision, like you said because they were afraid. And they are too arrogant to hire an “unknown” so they went with a bad hire.

I mean you can, because this is America, but it invalidates your argument entirely and shows you're too scared to defend it.

Defending your argument is not a false dilemma. This can only be a panic or bad hire if there were better options at the time, in real time.
Being unable to defend your point shows how poor it is, and no amount of emotional meltdowns or ad homs will change that. The only thing that will defend your point is actually defending your point

This only works if there's an option where they don't hire a coach. Was that an option?

They could have done a better search. But like you said, they were afraid, and made a …… panic hire lol

They could have probably gotten just about anyone in the world they wanted.
Who was a realistic option for Bama that would have been better than Deboer.
Lanning turned them down. There's absolutely zero chance in hell of plucking Kirby away from UGA. Sarkisian? No chance. Ryan Day? Nobody wanted him at the time, constantly underachieving at Ohio State. Dabo stock has taken a nosedive in the NIL era. Lane Kiffin? Id argue that Deboer accomplished more at Washington than Lane has at Ole Miss.
Outside of that, who are you thinking? Do you think you can convince Harbough to not go to the NFL?

Hiring the coach that just made the national title game “was a bad panic hire”

It seemed like the best hire possible at the time. sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

I've done the search ITT.

What better options were there?
DeBoer was the hottest name on the market that off-season
Lanning wasn't an option
Dabo wasn't an option
Kirby wasn't an option
I doubt Sark was leaving UT and their money
I doubt Ryan Day was leaving (and I doubt he'd be better than KDB in the SEC)
Apparently Sark declined to interview, so that can be revised.
I'll go down the AP top 25 at the end of last year to add more
Freeman? No way he leaves ND, but would he even be an upgrade?
Franklin? get the frick out
Kenny Dillingham? Similar to DeBoer with fewer scalps and less history at HC
Spencer Danielson? Less of a resume than Dillingham and similar backgrounds/culture to both he and DeBoer
Heupel? get the frick out
Cignetti? 64 with a worse resume than DeBoer
Kiffen, we covered
Rhett Lashlee? Probably won't have cultural issues and has SEC history, but with 1 year as a HC?
Kalani Sitake? No
Matt Campbell? Would say no
Bret Bielema? No
Cristobal? No
Shane Beamer? I'll listen to your arguments
Fran Brown? No
Jeff Monken? No
Drinkwitz? I'll listen to arguments, but he's another DeBoer-lite type with fewer skins on the wall, with 1 more year as a HC
Barry Odom? No
Silverfield? Again, whatever good you say about him, DeBoer has that history + a ttle appearance at a major school.
Deion Sanders? I'll listen to your arguments.

They want to pretend there was this magical option, and it's clear that was the better option, but, for some reason, they can't talk about it.
With decision analysis, you have to take the options given to you in real time. When judging the decision, you do it based on this real time scenairo.
So you look at A, B, and C, and analyze it from the data at the time (not with hindsight bias).
What they're doing is creating a magic box without a label they don't have to define as this better option, to criticize the decision.
