I think we have all seen Saban evolve his philosophy on offense. He knew with a few bad bounces( Ole Miss) he needed a dynamic offense to win. He saw this and changed. Les was told to change the offense, told everyone he had but refused. Anyone here is told to change your habits at work and refuses gets canned. Alleva biggest mistake was thinking most of the applause at the aTm game was support and not a polite thank you for many great memories.
Les’s stated philosophy of attacking your opponents strengths is good for 8-10 wins but will not consistently beat the people out recruiting u.
While O wasn’t my first choice he is my coach the players deserve better support than some of the negative Nancy’s have given.

Coach O isnt filling in as an OC or DC anytime soon. Great DL coach, but limited to that

He’s coached with/under Jimmie Johnson, Dave Wannstedt, Paul P, and Pete Carrol among others for the last 30 years. Even if it was purely by osmosis he has expertise out of his arse on several position groups.

The guy has been around some HOF coaches and some of the best programs in college football history. He loves LSU, loves the Louisiana and he is good for college football.

Yes, you are correct.

True.

From everything that I have read about Coach O, his players will move mountains for him because he is so loved and admired...You will steal some victories with that kid of heart and if you are able to bring in great talent you will start winning championships...

If a team like FSU had a Coach like this their players wouldn't have had their hands full with Samford and gotten blasted by Syracuse....

Jury still out on this.. I've said this many times on tRant and I will say it here.. In my book it takes three years to see where a "new" head coach is taking a program..

Overall, CEO seems to have the program going in the right direction...

His players at USC laid down in front of the door in trying to stop him from leaving when he didn't get the USC job. Enough said!

Miles had become complacent and was letting the program slip. The fire was gone.

Bingo! Les Miles the man was good for LSU and the SEC, not so much Les Miles the coach any longer!

Coaches do not have time to be an X's and O's guy. Too much stuff to do to really dive deep into game planning. That is why you see a lot of super talented OC/DC's fail at head coaching jobs. And it is why you see HC's hire their friends because they understand and agree with their defensive/offensive philosophy

I still think that firing Les Miles was extremely idiotic and the Coach O hire wasn't the best in the world but I think the man fits with LSU well. He loves the program and actually has emotional investment in his job. Whatever bad happens to that program, it won't be for lack of trying on O's part. Still might be a semi-shitty coach but he's my favorite outside of Nick.

Again, one of these is not like the others. Your obvious attempt to make yourself feel better about a very “meh” hire is obvious.

The dude has won 75% of his games since being fired from Ole Miss. Sure it’s at 2 elite programs but “hot” names like Tom Herman, Lane Kiffin, Willie Taggert, etc. have done worse at similar jobs

Big Ed O is a throwback coach for sure. He may have the same plan as Coach Bryant as far as his selection of assistant coaches.

"I don't hire anybody not brighter than I am. If they're not smarter than me, I don't need them."..Coach Bryant

And just imagine the pain it will cause in Oxford if he ever does win the SEC.
