Yeah, kinda like how Deshaun Watson never got any better after his freshman year

Seriously, Hurts has a ton of upside IMO but his best quality is his Brett Favre-like ability to make a boneheaded play one series then lead a touchdown drive the next. He never gets rattled and no stage is too big for him.

Where do I vote if I think you are too thin skinned? Wow guys, it's a discussion on a sports board - nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, Joe Namath landed in the Updyke column.

He's a work in progress. QB was a big question mark at the beginning of the season. I am very happy with his poise and demeanor during games. His reading of the defense and execution at times make it obvious that he is a true freshman.

I don't think there is another QB on our roster who would have us at 13-0 right now.

I'm just not a huge fan of the offense we run to fit him. Obviously it works though.

As far as Hurts himself, he's done well overall. Too many turnovers. And his passing has been subpar most of the year.

People say we would have lost such and such game without him. But, a QB that could take advantage of the receivers we have would have completely changed our game plan for the whole year. So, it's not as simple as "without Hurts we would have lost to ______." A different QB would have had different weaknesses, so maybe we would have lost some games, but we don't know that. Personally, I think this offense would have been unbelievable with a good play action passer, but that's just my opinion.

Really don't think coaches had much to choose from. Hurts is a good runner but if he could pass he would not have to run so much. The receivers have been open all year. I think this incoming Tau T. kid will have an impact.

We have one of the best offenses in the country. Could it be better with a more experienced QB? Yes, but that's not what we have. I actually am surprised that people think Hurts is what he is and won't improve. I expect him to improve a lot between now and the semifinal game with 15 practices to work with and lots of time in the film room. I think between the end of this season and next he'll improve even more. Him playing this season was probably unfair to him, but that's the situation we found ourselves in with the other QBs not panning out.

I've been pleased with him and the progress he has made. He has made mistakes that are typical for a young QB, taking a sack and sometimes getting loose with the ball. I think that he is just scratching the surface of the playbook though. He is being given a side of the field to read or a high low read right now. He isn't being allowed to audible right now either. I think the sky is the limit with him.

He is very good with a lot of poise and a tremendous upside. I do wish he would take care of the ball and not get us in to 2nd and long quite so much.

I'm kinda indifferent to it. Look, I am old school. I want to run the ball, play action pass, tall drop back QB with great accuracy and field awareness. I don't like and never will like the read option. With all the faking, run reads, QB running the ball you open yourself up for turnovers. This was always the one knock on the wishbone. It was a 4 turnover a game offense but was hard to defend.

I just like the offense we had when Saban first came but times have changed and we are winning a lot so I can live with it.

Some have suggested that we haven't done a lot of play-action because Hurts having to turn his back to the defense complicates things even more. I definitely think that has been a strong suit of the Bama offense under Saban and I could see us going back to it more in the future as Hurts develops.

Well his past three games have sucked.. You tell me. That isn't progression in my book

Is your book written in crayon?

Putting aside the Chattanooga game that the whole team mailed in, the last two games have been against 2 of the top 3 defenses in the SEC not named Alabama (and #6 and #20 nationally). The other of those three is LSU.

The offense, which you may have noticed is led by Hurts, put up 30 and 40 points on those two defenses - both of which were the highest points totals allowed by either unit during the entire 2016 season.

He's doing just fine.

I love his talent and his poise, and his potential to be just fantastic. I don't love his ball security and his passing accuracy. Those will improve.

He won the job for a reason. He's the best we've got and he'll only get better. So from my perspective, there's no sense focusing on his weaknesses - it's just what we have right now. I LOVE his attitude, he is totally bought in.
