I’d imagine Bro. Hugh will be hitting the portal hard come December
He already hit the portal hard and got us a bunch of shite 4* players. They suck too.
I've grown less interested in college football over the years. I'm quite okay with that. Watched 20 mins of football Saturday and that was the Duke/FSU game.

Hugh's first season at Ole Miss was garbage too.
Wat? He didn't do a miraculous turnaround but we weren't complete garbage either. He took a 2-10 (0-8 SEC) team that LSU was mercy kneeling with 5 minutes left in the game in 2011 to 7-6 in 2012.

They tried to force him out, & he got his revenge on their dime.
I mean he walked into a civil war within the AD the moment he got to the plains.
They had just forced Gus out after a long and bizarre multi year divorce where they tried to get rid of him then extended him because the big money guys couldn’t make up their mind what to do with him.
So Malzahn goes full gen z with a silent quit situation on the recruiting trail resulting in a horrifically under talented roster particularly at OL.
Then Harsin lands and finds out the big money boosters don’t want him and won’t help him with “NIL” because they want to establish control over the AD who they had thought was going to be their puppet but decided to go rogue on them.
So now a power run coach has no OL, no depth, lacks skill players on both sides of the ball and the boosters won’t make AU competitive on the trail so he can compete with Bama and UGA who are both taking turns winning championships at the time.
Then the big money guys try to leverage him out by trying to publicly humiliate the guy over an alleged affair threatening to blow up his family.
I don’t think he was the right hire.
From all accounts he was a jackass and didn’t build any bridges within the program or on the recruiting trail.
But let’s not pretend this hasn’t been 30-40 years of continuous drama at AU due to the rogue boosters down there going back at least to Bowden.
When you are on your 5th consecutive drama filled bad marriage it doesn’t mean the coach is blameless, but it damn sure means the school owns a lot of the situation.

I didn't watch games. I do like discussing them. I've seen enough to know Auburn is garbage and our rent-a-players suck. Don't see a need to watch. Just keep an eye out for the final scores.
Don't discuss it nearly as much as I used to as well. I miss loving college football.

Welcome Auburn fans to coaching staff hell gladly supported by SECRant haters. Come on and join us Aggies, Gators, Hawgs, and LSU Tigers.
Although the LSU seems to be making moves in an attempt to leave the group. Bama may have some say in that.

While the OL was bad when potato head arrived, we still had plenty of talent on the rest of the team.

Compared to the elite teams you are competing with? Absolutely not.
What positions do you think your roster was elite at when he arrived?
QB?
K?
RB?
I'd guess less than 25% of your starters would've been in the 2 deep on the 2010 Auburn team.
Good or bad you benchmark yourself against UGA and Bama and he didn't have the roster to compete with either or the depth to win games consistently late in the season to get you to 9-10 wins.
If you were ranking rosters where would they have stacked up in the SEC?
UGA
Bama
LSU
A&M
Florida
UT
I'd put them right there with the OM/MSU/Missouri tier where it gets pretty subjective but I think you were two or three levels behind the teams you want to compete with at the top of the league from a talent standpoint and the recruiting rankings all back that up.

I don't like the two QB situation, but I also think he feels like he's handcuffed to some extent. He clearly has zero confidence in Ashford's passing ability or he'd be our full time QB.
When you're hired the last week of November and the transfer portal closed not too long after that, your options are limited. He was able to get Thorne, but he clearly hasn't been the guy Freeze thought he'd be. Half of our WR corps was filled with non P5 transfers. We have 3 starting transfers on OL from Tulsa, E Carolina and W Kentucky.
It's a team full of bandaids at this point. We'll have to rely on the portal for at least another year, but it looks like 2025 and on will be high school heavy for us to start building depth.
We'll see where it goes, but as some Auburn fans have pointed out on other boards, Freeze warned us. He said it was going to be a tough year with what he had to work with. I don't think anyone thought the offense would be as inept as it is, but our QB situation is poor at best. There's only so much you can do stepping in to that until you can bring in some actual talent to build up.

How the frick do you get lost looking for Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson? It's literally a straight shot up 85. You make ONE turn once you hop on 85 in Auburn. And that's the exit to the airport. One. fricking. Turn. I thought it was foolish to fire him halfway through his second season but if this is true, damn you guys should have fired him sooner.
And then there was a time when a recruit said he loved Auburn, but “I’ve never met Coach Haskins”. Lots of recruiting horror stories for such a short tenure.
