Kelly will never win a national title, they say.
He played for 1 at Notre Dame.

Did he though? His team was never in the game. It was literally over after the first quarter. His halftime interview was basically waving the white flag. Would have been a similar result against Georgia.

Same story with all of his playoff appearances. None of those games were in doubt.

If I were an LSU fan, I'd at least want a coach that I knew wouldn't crumble at the first sign of adversity.

Serious question: how do the players feel about him?

He’s a 9-11 win coach that can win a NC but won’t go on a run of being a perennial top 5 team. He generates hope and excitement among the fanbase but that also means disappointment will follow for some because of 9-3.

He’s a top 12 coach.

Yeah, Woodward's awful. He hired a baseball coach who's won a national title, a women's basketball coach who's won a national title, promoted the women's gymnastics coach who won a national title,

Many, many LSU fans feel that LSU is going to win a national championship in football in 2025 or 2026.

Coach Kelly just needs his recruiting classes.

Were coaching at Buffalo and James Madison when Kelly was hired. This isn't Mizzou, dude. We don't hire our coaches from App State.

Don't be shocked if Sun Belt Billy Napier beat Independent Brian Kelly!

I'm trying to have a respectful conversation with people here.

I think Woodward has generally done a very good job. Baseball, women's basketball, and women's gymnastics we've won national titles. That's the goal for every sport, right?
So, in those sports I think we're ok.

Football- no, 9-3 isn't a national title (or actually contending for one). It IS a nice alternative to sucking, so long as you have upward potential.
Our defensive collapse was unanticipated, and that set things back a couple years... but we have an elite recruiting class on the way, and it seems like the coaching staff in place now. That's NOT a bad spot to be in, we should be able to make a move in a year or so. That's my assessment of the situation. (the fact that people are crying about 9-3 instead of 6-6 is big).
The one thing that I think is necessary- LSU needs to restock the secondary. That is big, as any SEC fan knows LSU usually has corners and safeties consistently. I do think the last DC messed that up by going portal only- it can't be an annual plug and play there. We have tons of athletes in La, Corey Raymond needs to identify and bring in the guys he used to. It's his first year back, so this year is a wash; but it needs to resume.

Men's basketball- that's a hard call. Fired Wade, a guy who had us in the tourney consistently. Kinda had to, as he was viewed as a blatant cheater by the outside world and there was going to be heat if we didn't. Matt McMahon hasn't lived up to hopes yet, and lots of people are impatient. He needs to make a step up this year.

LSU has never been an “elite” program in the true sense of the word. Going 5-6 years of losing at least 3 or more games a season and then catching lightning in a bottle isn’t “elite”. Sure they’ve had success, but they’ve never won on a level as consistent as Alabama or Ohio State. They’re more similar to programs like Penn State and USC.

Is it worth 10 million dollar a year HC and some top pay for assistants for this? It would be better to get someone young and upcoming who have proven to build other programs and succeed.

How about Kansas HC? Indiana HC? There are plenty more to go around. Your AD was lazy and just went with the same route that he did hiring Jimbo Fisher.

This is some major league level stupidity from TrueLefty, as usual.

Indiana's coach is actually older than BK and the Kansas coach is only 3 years younger.

Alternatively, the Indiana coach has barely any Division I experience and has only beaten one team with even a winning record this year.

The Kansas head coach is a career .487 head coach. BK is sitting at .727

It's very telling that low IQ posters here are constantly opining over how bad BK supposedly is, but their "better coaches" are always worse.

I wouldn't trade Pittman for him. He would suck in Fayetteville on and off the field.

To each his own, but that seems like a bad decision. BK won more games at cupcake Central Michigan than Pittman does at Arkansas.

BK Win Percentage

Central Michigan .543
Cincinnati .850
Notre Dame .739
LSU .722

Pittman Win Percentage

Arkansas .491

I think the point is both win the same amount of big games and one costs a lot lot less. Pittman can lose 42-13 to Bama too.
