It's a reasonable question. The line has moved towards Bama presumably because the odds makers feel that a healthy Bama team with that much talent and extra time to prepare should win. I'm not so sure but I'm expecting another close and fairly high scoring game.

I think Saban sees the handwriting on the wall. I would guess that he realizes that without some significant innovation on offense Bama will not win this game. The mystery to me is with so much talent on the OL, why is Bama not able to run the ball better against quality opponents? Is the OL overrated or is the playcalling and execution lacking on offense? I'm thinking the later.

Clemson will likely score at least 4 TD's so Bama better be prepared to keep up.

Based on what, exactly? People keep correctly harping on how our offense has performed against good defenses, but people seem to assume this Clemson offense is just 2015 and 2016 all over again.

vs Auburn : 14 points, 281 yards, 4.19 YPP

vs Virginia Tech : 31 points, 332 yards, 5.19 YPP

vs Wake Forest : 28 points, 453 yards, 5.09 YPP

vs Georgia Tech : 24 points, 428 yards, 5.49 YPP

vs Florida State : 31 points, 378 yards, 4.61 YPP

vs South Carolina : 34 points, 469 yards, 5.65 YPP

vs Miami : 38 points, 331 yards, 4.41 YPP

For comparative purposes, here are Alabama's offensive stats vs "good" defenses

vs Florida State : 24 points, 269 yards, 4.48 YPP

vs LSU : 24 points, 299 total yards, 4.98 YPP

vs Auburn : 14 points, 314 total yards, 5.15 YPP

Clemson has turned teams over and had great field position leading to points, but they are not some sort of offensive juggernaut. They aren't explosive and they require almost 80 plays to get 400 yards in most of their games. The only games they broke 6.0 YPP were Kent State, Louisville and Citadel (Alabama broke 6.0 YPP 8 times this season, FWIW).

They averaged 28 pts, 315 yards and 4.58 YPP against ranked teams (Auburn, Virginia Tech, Miami). I don't accept that it is a "given" that they are going to basically hit their average PPG against us and blow past those yardage marks.

They won't because hurts is a better qb and runner than Bryant and he turns the ball over less.

Louisville, Syracuse and NC State moved the ball on them. I mean, they have a great DLine, but Alabama usually finds a way to generate a little offense. And when Saban has a month to prepare.....I wouldn't bet against him in the situation they are in. After last year, I suspect Alabama will be motivated.

Should be an interesting game.

I don't think we will stop Oklahoma. Hopefully we can slow them down, though.

Both ga and bama have better defenses than our or cu have played this year. Remember Auburn wasn't quite the team at the start of the year they were at the end.

Valid but I think with a month to prepare, Clemson will have enough new plays and wrinkles off their base offense to score their average vs Bama. By the same token, Bama's offense should more innovation on offense that will allow them to move the ball better than expected vs an excellent Clemson defense.

This is why I'm expecting a pretty high scoring game. I think the additional prep time gives the offenses an advantage in developing plays that the defenses haven't seen on film.

What can you point to Bryant being any better for Clemson?

How will Clemson move the ball on Alabama?

Opponent Yards
Louisville - 116 Rush/317 Pass
Wake Forest - 133 Rush/203 Pass
Virginia Tech - 90 Rush/252 Pass
Syracuse - 162 Rush/278 Pass
NC State - 153 Rush/338 Pass

Notice those teams having passing QBS? Bama did not face many at all this year. Sure there are going to be yards given up when a team run and pass which is the point. Can Bama run AND pass the ball?

Bowl, do you think we can muster more than 6 points and 117 yards?

It was a weird game with several uncharacteristic mistakes by Clemson.

Bama could say the same in their game against Auburn and Miss St. And even Clemson last year.

So true. It seemed like every game in the past five years against Bama has had a penalty or penalties against Bama that weren't called late in the game when it mattered

It's not like Jake Fromm is some juggernaut, so we could ask the same thing about your team. You best hope your defense has a good game because otherwise, your offense won't be able to score as many points as OU will.

Personally, I doubt Jalen Hurts can beat a good defense, but Clemson's quarterback doesn't look very good either, so UA has a chance.

I also do not get the Hurts hate from Alabama fans.

Bama fans have complained about every QB of the Saban era. Not quite as bad with McCarron as everyone else but the backup QB has always been the best player on the team in the eyes of a lot of fans. Saban, he's one hell of a defensive coach but a total imbecile when it comes to recognizing which QB gives Bama the best chance to win.

I don't know how we'll do it, but I hope it's ten yards at a time.
