He will be carried off on his players' shoulders after beating A&M and saving his job.

Seriously if A&M ends up with on 3 or 4 wins.. how does Jimbo not lose his job? I can't see them doing that bad, surely he will turn this season around,.. would be shocked if he didn't to be honest.

You are more optomistic than me. Every conference game remaining is a loss until/unless the team plays better than they have to this point.

I can think of 90 million reasons. The $90 million doesn't kick in until NEXT season.

2018-2021 seasons: $7.5 Million each
2022-2031 seasons: $9.0 Million each

If he is fired, the remainder of the contract.

If he leaves for another job on his own, zero.

Probably should just hire the Texas Hammer to do the contract negotiations, can’t get any worse

A&M needs to pay another school $20mil under the table to take him and save some money.

By far the most overrated coach in college football today. He had had 3 really good years in his career and saying last year was one of those is s stretch.

The problem goes well beyond just this one. It's just gotten progressively worse. Here is the history:

1998: R.C. Slocum gets a 7-year guaranteed contract extension after winning the Big 12 and finishing 11-3. The following season, he goes 8-4, including losing three games by a combined score of 104-6. After 3 seasons of 7-5, 8-4 and 6-6, he is fired.

2004: Dennis Franchione gets a 6-year guaranteed contract extension after a 7-5 season in which A&M loses to Baylor for the first time in 20 years and the worst bowl loss in program history (38-7 to Tennessee) because his agent floats rumors that Notre Dame is trying to poach him. The following season, he goes 5-6, then 9-4 with the worst bowl loss in program history (45-10 to Cal), then 7-5 with the donors leaking information that he was selling medical information in a $1,200/month newsletter and "resigns".

2010: Mike Sherman is given an extension to an already guaranteed contract with 5 years remaining after a 9-4 season. In 2011, he goes 6-6, including 5 losses where blown leads of 2+ scores occured in the 2nd half after starting the season ranked 7th. He is fired for publicly criticizing the move to the SEC and refusing to hire an offensive coordinator.

2013: Kevin Sumlin is given a 6-year guaranteed contract with the remainder of the contract due within 60 days of termination extension after seasons of 11-2 and 9-4 KNOWING that Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans were leaving for the draft because his agent floated rumors that USC and the Philadelphia Eagles were looking at hiring him. The following season, he goes 8-5, then drives off two 5-star quarterbacks 6 days apart in 2015, then goes 8-5 after starting 2016 7-1, then UCLA happens and he is fired later that season.

2020: Jimbo Fisher gets a 3 year extension to an already bloated guaranteed contract after a top 4 finish in a COVID shortened season. 2021 is currently happening.

It's bad enough being an AU fan with our history of contract extensions. I never realized A&M had taken it to the next level though.

They threw Jackie under the bus in 1988. Since then, they have a paralyzing fear of losing any slight hint of success.

It spread to basketball as well. After losing Billy Gillispie to Kentucky, they stupidly gave Billy Kennedy a ridiculous extension before the 2016 season even concluded.
