2019 LSU beat Clemson (on a 29 game win streak) by 3 scores

Yea that 2019 LSU team was an all time great. What's your point?

When you have by far the best roster

Clemson’s starting defense that night saw 10 of the 11 drafted in the NFL draft, 5 in the first round.

Alabama’s starting defense that night saw 7 of the 11 drafted in the NFL draft, 2 in the first round.

Clemson’s starting offense that night saw 7 of 11 starters drafted in the NFl draft, 2 in the first round. Trevor Lawrence was the #1 pick.

Alabama’s starting offense that night saw 10 of 11 starters drafted in the NFL draft, 6 in the first round.

All told, Clemson had 17 draft picks start, Alabama had 17 draft picks start.

The idea that Alabama was vastly more talented is a fallacy.

2018 Clemson is underrated in GOAT discussions. Once they gelled with Lawrence at QB, they were pretty damn tough.

That three man dt rotation of dexter Lawrence Chris wilkins and Albert Huggins was hell on a college offensive line

That Clemson team was loaded and then Bama played like absolute shite. That's what happened.

Practically the same roster Clemson had in 2019. What happened to them?

What happened in that natty?

Venables had pre-snap looks that baited Tua into certain throws.

What happened in that natty? Just a freak show performance from clemson or something deeper? And is this the best team to not win it all?

I was there so let me vent. First time in my many years watching Bama I got up and left mid 3rd quarter.

First half - was still very close game at halftime. Bama has some errors that cost points. Ok, that happens and Saban will go in at halftime and fix.

About two minutes before halftime, I’m watching Saban on the sideline frantically talking to the defense on the bench. He’s being quintessential Saban. You can tell he is arse chewing hard. I turned to the fellow sitting next to me and pointed out what Saban was doing. I remember saying, “man, we’re in trouble. He’s lost the team.” Going off the field the players looked dejected and deflated. Not that fist and pump attitude I had seen many times.

Third quarter from the start was a disaster. Game over midway third.

My take? That game was the beginning of the end for Saban. I think he lost the team in the lockeroom at halftime.

Sure, he won another natty after that but something snapped in him that game.

Would be interesting if some of the so called national media experts would dig into that game and talk with players to get their take on what really happened.

No way Clemson was the better team. Play 10 games and Bama wins 8.

Kudos to Clemson. They are a tough bunch.

People magically remember a different version of Hurts at Alabama now that some time has passed and he won a Super Bowl. Let's be real, Hurts struggled at Alabama as the starter against nearly all good competition, especially late in the season when it mattered most. He just wasn't enough of a passer. His year at OU against the Big 12 dramatically improved his confidence

I think you are misremembering how improved 2018 Jalen Hurts was. Do you not remember the 2018 SECCG? 2017 Hurts wasn't capable of that. He clearly had turned a corner passing and playing QB in general his junior year.

but lets not pretend he was better than Tua as a college QB.

No one is saying that, but Tua was not that good in 3 of the last 5 games of the 2018 season, and Hurts looked damn good when he got playing time against AU, and when he had to save our arse against UGA.

Its just a dumb hypothetical.

Absolutely he saved us. Not criticizing him at all. But I’m not going to stretch a few quarters of good play into a “if only Jalen had been our starter.”

Both teams were loaded with NFL talent...if that game was played 6 times..it would probably be 3-3. Just was not Bamas night.

Clemson lost 6 key starters to the NFL draft, including 3 of the first 17 players drafted, between 2018 and 2019.

That is a big part of what happened.

Brent Vene was the reason. Do not know if he did or did not sign steal..but not cheating like mics in a headphone being listened to...I expect coaches to have people trying to read signs....it may be frowned on but not illegal. It is on the offense to change up signs frequently.

Saban won because he had the decked stacked down there at his little Alabama gig.

If this is true, why did other coaches not stack the deck?

If you're asserting Saban was above average at best -- which you undoubtedly are, then why did other coaches who were above average not do the same thing?

They literally kept all these studs and were blown out by LSU.

- Trevor Lawrence, running back Travis Etienne, wide receivers Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross, and defensive stars like Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence, and A.J. Terrell
