I overheard that Brent Key feelers are out.

Well, LSU's last three HCs have won NCs in their third so I'd say there's pressure to at least make the playoffs this season. (Third full season for Ed O.)

How so?

He hired Brad Davis from the old staff.

Polian built that 2022 portal team.

Hankton. Wilson. Sloan.

House was fine in 2022 but the experience level of our DBs changed drastically and it really showed some deficiencies in his ability to teach.

But i don’t blame Kelly for likening his staff going into year 2.

Serious question. Does LSU beat Georgia in the 2005 SECCG if Saban is still there? UGA was very good in 2005 but they just had a bad loss to Auburn a few weeks before that game and they were a significant underdog.

What was the main reason Georgia upset LSU that year?

The moment they hired Brian Kelly is the moment they resigned themselves to being 8-4/9-3 for the foreseeable future.

They've seemed pretty happy with it so far, especially given all the blowout losses since Kelly arrived.

If Saban had been LSUHC in 2005 (Katrina-Rita season), LSU would not have won the SECW and would not have been in the SECCG. Nick Saban, the control freak, would have had a nervous breakdown at the conditions at LSU in August-October. It was amazing we won 11 games that season.

Because of Katrina they played 11 straight weeks from 9/26 to 12/3. I don't know if that's why they lost, but having a bye week and a week off before the SEC title game would have helped

2005 was katrina and it messed up our schedule.

Maybe we win with Saban.

Starting next year LSU should be a perennial playoff team with a good shot at it this year as well. Kelly was brought in to stop the yo-yoing back and forth between championships and mediocrity.

His DB coaches had little to no P5 experience and his DL coaching was a miss until hiring Bo Davis

LSU had completely run out of gas. After a few weeks off, the Tigers destroyed Miami 40-3 in the Peach Bowl. Pretty remarkable season for LSU given the adversity of the hurricane.

I don't think it is likely that he wins a title this year either. There are still too many missing pieces on defense, but he's going to be here at least 5-6 years barring a complete collapse, so all we LSU fans can do is go along for the ride.

I was thinking the same thing. To put a 3 year timeline on something like that seems unfair to Kelly. Give him time to reset the culture to make it his culture, and get the players he wants to fit his scheme.

Is the defense really expected to be much better? It’s year 2 that portal guys pay off. Did a bunch of guys return? How big of an impact is the new DC expected to make

Baker isn't a miracle worker. We still lack talent at DT and DB. The new defensive staff is recruiting better but it's going to take time.
