Not at all. I grew up in Baton Rouge, and I wanted to stay here.

But you liked TAMU's Soviet Russia looking campus?

Dad grew up a state fan but went to Millsaps. Mom only went to jr college but cheered on the Bulldogs because her dad did. I applied at multiple SEC schools but chose bama to avoid out of state tuition. Between bama and auburn I chose bama because of their business school. Ultimately I didn't become a bama fan until 2004 when I got accepted. It was a rocky start to the fandom but it's since paid off.

ETA: despite being a state fan, my dad always talked about how he grew up watching bama and the bear due to only having 3-5 channels. So while not a fan he said he always kept up with them.

Born in Tuscaloosa, grew up just down the road, so there was no way I was going anywhere else. Played on the scout team for four years, got a degree, and four rings while I was there so I can't complain.

I always had ties to Arkansas so I followed them in sports even though I spent my teen aged years on the East Coast and in the Midwest.

By sheer luck I happened to drift back to Arkansas and graduated from there.

I would still call the Hogs even if I hadn't done that but it all seemed to work out for best.

Alabama sure has improved their standing a lot in recent years due to kids who aren't college material

Had full scholarship offers at UF, UCF, Bama, and MSU. I applied to MSU because my parents were alums but I had no intent to actually go there. MSU ended up giving by far the best tour/visit.

Side note UF had the worst tour, and I almost chose UCF just because they serve alcohol in the student union

I love Alabama football, but couldn't turn down a full ride to Troy University. Can't let football sway a decision like that too much.

Same here. I grew up a Bama fan, and was still undecided on where to go to school in the spring of my senior year. Troy offered me an academic scholarship due to my ACT score. I got tuition paid for. I took the ACT a couple more times because back then they would calculate a composite score if you took it 3 times. I needed a 31 but ended up with a 30 overall. I figured it was $20 to take the test and if I raised my composite from a 28 to a 31 I would have had books, room and board, and fees in addition to tuition.

When were you at Troy?

Did not follow LSU until 2001 as a BR native, but the success back then admittedly had me interested. I still had thoughts though about looking at UGA.

I had relatives that went to Bama and lots of friends going there. Just loved being up there. Would have gone regardless.

Bachelors degree from Jacksonville State University. Masters Degree from Auburn.

My choices were based on scholarship and proximity. I live 25 miles from Auburn and 160 miles from Tuscaloosa.

I might start my PhD at Faulkner next year.

Did a non revenue sport, so bama having good contracts with Nike and yuge athletic department support was moderately important. I said that after the 97 season too It's not that football entirely mattered, but funding absolutely did. I grew up a uf fan, but coaching change in my sport 100% eliminated them as an option. Could've gone ivy if my parents were poorer or significantly wealthier, again funding.

Did it feel weird being a Bama fan on Auburn's campus? A buddy of mine did his undergrad at Auburn. Both his parents went to Auburn. They actually met there. So he was an Auburn fan his whole life. But he wanted to go to law school and to do that in-state it meant Alabama. He met us at a football game a few times and he kept saying how weird it was walking around on a big game day.

None, but my college decision affected my football team preference 100%.

Not really. I didn't wear Alabama gear or anything.

That's not weird. This is weird. One of my friends and colleagues PLAYED baseball on scholarship at Alabama in the 1980's and graduated. He is a die hard Auburn fan and wears Auburn gear all the time. He will wear Alabama baseball gear, but not football or any other sport.

Was accepted into Cornell as well. It's a beautiful campus on one of the Finger Lakes... was all ready to go there and was even approached by the football coach....no scholly though.....then my dad got the potential bill.

You chose ATM over Cornell? You clearly are not smart enough to get into Cornell, then.

Well, you didn't do your research. The thing about IVY's: if you get in, you go for free or close to free if you can't afford it. So, I question if you really got in.

I never once considered the football team in choosing my academic ambitions. That really is not having your priorities straight.

Football and believe it or not marching band played a big factor in my decision. I looked at USCe and Clemson since they were the in state schools and I would've had cheaper tuition thanks to the SC lottery, but I was dead set on Bama.

Granted the 2009 championship did initially spark my interest in Alabama but I'm not a bandwagon fan. My senior year of HS was 2010-2011 when Auburn went undefeated and Bama had 3 losses, so if I WAS a shameless bandwagon fan I'd be an Auburn alumnus right about now.

I decided to stay with Bama and boy oh boy did it pay off.
