I mean, Mississippi State won the West that year. MISSISSIPPI STATE. That should tell you everything you need to know.

And still lost to a 4-7 LSU team 41-6. It was a crazy year.

They beat every team they faced. I really enjoyed watching them win it. I'm not sure whether I was for Tenner or just against the Semenholes.

The Rooster had been a walk-on 3rd string QB that played in that NC Game against the Vols. Weinke and another QB had season ending injuries and could not play.

Aggy beat K-State right before our game started.

Actually that game didn’t end until almost all of the first quarter of the SEC title game had been played.

2007 LSU was the absolute worst.

I don’t even count that as a Natty.

Any talk of us getting lucky with FSUs backup QB has to be tempered by the fact that in 2001, LSU’s backup QB came in during the SECC game and ate our lunch. We suffered our payback.

I posted in another thread the amount of NFL talent that was on the 98 team. It’s ridiculous. That team was loaded and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand the environment of CFB in that era.

They won a share but beat Arkansas head to head and went to the SECCG.

Tee Martin was the QB.

We would still have lost because Nutt would run out of fingernails.

What a bad year for college football and the SEC in general.

No. It was exciting. Many teams had a chance to win divisions going late into the season.

Agreed. The natty wasn’t decided among 3/4 teams before the season was played, like how it is now. Parity was a thing. Those were the days.

What happened to Nebraska that year? Didn’t they obliterate Tennessee the year before and after?

Osborne retired after the 97 season and they lost a lot of guys to graduation and the draft.

Really mediocre. Tulane would have creamed them in a fair championship game that year. And the UT qb was Tee Martin, not the great Peyton Manning. Just ridiculous season and the beginning of the end of Dinardo.

not just LSU as most of us LSU fans believe

Even a good LSU back then wasn't really that good, upon further analysis. LSU finished 10-2 in 1996, with two really ugly losses that year: 13-56 @ Florida and 26-0 v Bama.

Still more legitimate than Bama 2020.
