...in their respective states? Maybe Vanderbilt? Is it considered better than Sewanee/Belmont? I know it's hard to compare big state schools and small private schools. What's the best school in your state?

Then maybe don't respond to it. An earlier thread today made me wonder.

I'd say it's Furman for SC.

Nothing in the Sunshine State better than UF, maybe Stetson is close

And I'd give GA to Emory, then GA Tech

He asked who the best school was in our state.

And, should I point out that you said Emory, so......

In all seriousness, I thought of Emory, but stepped back because of the academic scandal they had several years ago.

But, Emery is a good guess, too.

We are coming on, though. It'll get better. Brick by brick.

UF is the best in Florida. We do have a few really good smaller schools in State too.

You have a Clemson icon, did you mean TAMU?

Out of publically funded unis that have division I football:

Florida is tops in their state (I guess Miami is close but Miami is private). FSU is not as elite academically as either UF or Miami.

Vandy is tops in their state

Georgia Tech has the advantage in GA. MIT of the south. Though I am sure UGA has programs in certain fields that might be preferable or not offered at all at Tech.

UAB is tops in Alabama (and maybe the south) for medical school. USA also has a med school and is a good school in general. Alabama for law. AU for engineering and vet school.

Ole Miss is definitely tops in MS in almost every category. Miss St. has one of the top veterinary schools, though, I know that. MSU and AU are neck in neck in veterinary science.

I assume LSU in LA. But Tulane is a pretty good school, too. And La Tech, I assume, has the advantage in STEM.

Arkansas is pretty much the only game in town in Arky. I seriously doubt Arky State is as good academically.

TAMU is definitely not tops in Texas

I know little about the state of SC, so I assume it depends on the program you want. I know USCe has a medical school because my doctor is a USCe graduate. I am sure Clemson is tops in certain fields. This is similar to how it is in AL.

Kentucky is another I know nothing about. I bet Louisville is better in certain fields and I bet KY is preferred in others. Western Kentucky is the third largest in the state, but I know nothing about them academically.

I know absolutely nothing about Missouri, so no comment.
