“This ends an emotional time for me because I have never before left where I felt that my work was incomplete,” he said. “Even though I feel optimistic about the prospects for next season, I believe that in the best interests of myself and the university, it is time for a change.” Green’s contract, which paid him $545,000 annually, was set to expire March 31, 2005. His package included apparel endorsements and radio and television appearances. Tennessee negotiated a $1.1-million buyout over five years: a $100,000 payment on March 31, then annual payments of $200,000 through 2006. Green, 57, was 89-36 in four seasons, and the Volunteers won at least 20 games each season.
Tennessee fired Green after 4 straight 20 win NCAA Tourney seasons.
His teams did not get better at all throughout the year and when fans pushed back against his shitty coaching he told them they could go walk around K Mart if they didn’t want to watch it. So they called his bluff and fired him.
The UCLA situation with Barnes took away a lot of the good will he had built up with the Grant and Admiral teams and I think it’s very possible it ends the same way here that the Green thing did if he doesn’t pick it up. There’s a good portion of the fan base that isn’t happy with him right now. If he flames out early in March it will be a sizable portion going into next year.

How Cuonzo Martin is not already fired is a mystery to me.

His contract, he cannot be fired until may of 2022. Per his contract, he cannot be fired the following year after making the tourney.

Cuonzo is misunderstood. You will see this once again against Auburn.

He’s already skating on thin ice with many fans due to the UCLA thing
That’s still one of the strangest situations of the last few years, from a coaching search standpoint anyway…

Is Mike White donezo if he misses the tournament?

He is the fifth highest paid coach in the sport and will be going on four years without even a Sweet 16 if they don’t do it this year.
Seems more than a little unfair to count a year with no tournament.

Howland is a grifter. If he’s not fired after another fruitless year after his 8 years in Starkville, it’s because we care nothing of basketball.

Bruce Pearl is on the hot seat. Not that Auburn will fire him but every big program with an opening is going to make him an offer.
UNC didn’t. Duke didn’t. And I don’t see anything less than a blue blood pulling him away. If Louisville pulled the trigger and made a change I think they’d at least make a couple of calls and I also think it would be a great fit. But for the most part, I don’t see a lot of programs that should make Auburn nervous. (Which likely means he’ll take a gig next week.)

Money is the main reason. Why spend so much money and not get much back. Football is where money is being made. Look back at the old Big East conference. What happened to that conference? It was one of the best basketball conferences, but it collapsed due to not making much money out of basketball and not all had football and it was pretty bad for most at football. That is why some SEC teams are not putting basketball to be as good as football due to resource and a need to put more on football. Can't put money and resource at all three major sports.

I won’t pretend to be familiar with our budget, but we average more at our baseball games than we do at our basketball game.

Ben Howland will be strongly encouraged to retire. Cohen hasn't got the balls to fire him, though. It might hurt Ben's feelings

Green was fired because he pissed off the wrong people moreso than how his teams played or the results on the court.

He wasn’t going to make the tournament the year is was cancelled. Team was like 17-14 so they needed to win the SECT.
That said he’s not going anywhere unless he’s just ready to hang it up.

Bruce is 61. He’s not going anywhere. He’ll stay until such time Auburn plays on Bruce Pearl Court.

Diddlydawg assured us over a month ago they were getting better each game and just needed a little time because it was a team full of transfers. This was after they just beat Memphis.
Since he said that they are 2-9 with 8 straight losses
Memphis has also turned into a mediocre team going 5-6 since then.

How in the world is Stackhouse’s seat not on fire?

Crean is only misunderstood. He just needs more time.
