Over the next few drafts? As many as a dozen. Maybe more.

Combined I would guess as many as 5~7 in each of the next 3 drafts. (15~20 total)

That would be 20% of the next three 1st round classes on one field on the same night.

Alabama's gonna have a lot this year. LSU could have as many in next year's and the year after's draft. LSU's best NFL prospects are all underclassmen or juniors. Although I think a lot of them will be early 2nd round picks.

I think each defense had ~7-9 total potential 1st rounders over the next 3 years.

Bama Potential 1st Rounders on Defense:
Chapman
Upshaw
Barron-fringe 1st rounder in 2012
Hightower-likely 2nd round
Kirkpatrick
Milliner- Great measureables (Probably Bama's best athlete....Patrick Peterson like Combine likely in terms of 40, vertical & standing broad jump) and still very young (~19-20)
Lester-fringe 1st rounder in 2013
Clinton-Dix

LSU Potential 1st Rounders
Mingo
Montgomery
Brockers
Logan
Claiborne
Mathieu
Reid
Johnson

I'm not as familiar with LSU's back-ups that could be potential future 1st rounders.

Hightower in the 2nd?? Do you think his knee drops him? He's probably the most dominant MB in college.

Mathieu is 5'9" with 2 inch heals and lifters. His size alone will keep him out of the 1st round.

I love the kid's attitude and athleticism. But I'll be surprised if he goes the first round.

Not flaming, but I think Bama's LB's got exposed a bit (cant run sideline to sideline due to size). I think that hurts their stock.

Most NFL scouts are saying that Mathieu's size will keep him out of the top 10 of players chosen in the first round. Most of them have him around the 15-25 range of the first round.

Hightower, Upshaw, Barron, Richardson, Claiborne, and Jones are probably first rounders in next year's draft.

Menzie and Lester have an outside shot, but it's pretty low.

Mosley and Milliner will be first rounders once it's all said and done.

I haven't seen a single projection that has him taken in the first round.

The only one that i will add that has a shot at 1st round, Chris Faulk LT. He is only a Soph and i think has an outside shot at making 1st team SEC this year. But i do think Jones is the leader for that spot.

I'm sure you'll blow it off, but if this were an undersized Alabama player at some point, you'd be relishing it.

Projection: Top 15 in 2013 draft. As good as Mathieu is and will be by the time he is draft eligible his size will still be a knock on him. For some players it makes sense to knock them because their lack of size will inhibit them as playmakers in the NFL. I think Mathieu is an exception to that rule. Regardless, I find it hard to imagine that he will get picked in the top five or ten overall selections even as his skills continue to develop. But if he fell out of the top 15 it would be an absolute travesty for someone as talented as he is.
