here's another one ranking him as the top CB for the 2014 draft...

very strange... because I didn't think he was going to be a very high draft pick either. Then I started reading more from NFL scouts, and I was pretty surprised. They are all very high on him.

An NFL Analyst (forgot his name) on Matt Mascona's show said 17.

No Doubt first round players in the next 2-3 drafts:

Richardson
Kirkpatrick
Barron
Menzie

Claiborne
Reid
Brockers

others who have a good chance: Hightower; Mathieu; Upshaw; Montgomery; Faulk; Barret Jones

Many other younger players who also may get drafted high.

LSU's possible 1st rounders

Rueben Randle if he stays until the 2013 draft. Not this year likely but if he stays and has another good year he could go 1st round. He'll measure and test very well

Chris Faulk-prototype size and athleticism for NFL tackles.Only a soph

Sam Montgomery-speed rusher with suprising strength.Prime candidate as a 3-4 rush LB

Mingo-same as Montgomery aside from the strength

Micheal Brockers-great size and can blow up the line at times.Soph that will continue to get better

Anthony Johnson-pretty much self explanatory

Ego Ferguson-his athleticism and talent are 1st round gradable. He's played pretty well this year.Depends on how he develops his natural talent.just a freshman

Claiborne-lock

Mathie-i have doubts but it's possible

Simon-6'3 cbs with his skills are rare.I personally think he'll be the best pure cb when compared to PP7 and Claiborne

Ried-Smart,size and just a good football player with talent

Loston- if he ever stays healthy and plays smarter he has the talent to be a star.

Loston will be lucky to ever start at this point. He is a liability in pass coverage

Does not compute.

I would add Josh Chapman, Nico Johnson, CJ Mosely, and DJ Fluker to that list for Bama (if we are only looking at next 2 drafts...I can't estimate for the draft that would include this year's FR).

I think each defense had ~7-9 total potential 1st rounders over the next 3 years.

Bama Potential 1st Rounders on Defense:
Chapman
Upshaw
Barron-fringe 1st rounder in 2012
Hightower-likely 2nd round
Kirkpatrick
Milliner- Great measureables (Probably Bama's best athlete....Patrick Peterson like Combine likely in terms of 40, vertical & standing broad jump) and still very young (~19-20)
Lester-fringe 1st rounder in 2013
Clinton-Dix

LSU Potential 1st Rounders
Mingo
Montgomery
Brockers
Logan
Claiborne
Mathieu
Reid
Johnson

I'm not as familiar with LSU's back-ups that could be potential future 1st rounders.

I forgot to include:

CJ Mosley
Nico Johnson- "potentially" 1st round

Menzie is a senior and he won't be drafted in the 1st round in the 2012 Draft. If he's lucky, perhaps early 3rd round. Menzie is a mid 4.6x guy in the 40. That alone will keep him out of the 1st round.

1st round at what position??

Mathieu is ranked as the #1 CB in for the 2014 Draft Class. RB and CB are 2 positions where "ideal" size is overvalued. Scouts look for guys who can make plays regardless of size.

As you can see per the below link, Mathieu is rated higher than Xavier Rhodes and Dee Milliner who are both 4 inches taller than Mathieu.

Agreed. I think he is a 3rd rounder. He could perform his way at combine and in workouts up one round (see Kareem Jackson as example).

This is incorrect. I saw the link, but the link is old. He ran a 4.62 6 months after an achiles injury. This past spring he ran a 4.51. With the right speed training in advance of the draft he could easily hit 4.45/4.48.

Menzie is a freakish athlete. He'll perform really well in team workouts and combine.

Hightower in the 2nd?? Do you think his knee drops him? He's probably the most dominant MB in college.

Mathieu is 5'9" with 2 inch heals and lifters. His size alone will keep him out of the 1st round.

Most scouts/NFL analysts currently have this order for ILB in the 2012 Draft:

Manti Te'o
Vontaze Burfict
Luke Kuechly
Dont'a Hightower
Nico Johnson

This could all change after the NFL Combine & Pro Days.

I'll take your word on the 4.51 but CB is the deepest position in the 2012 NFL Draft and I still doubt that he goes before the 3rd round. The below are other CBs that will be available in the 2012 Draft. Menzie will probably need to be ranked in the top 8 of these guys to go in the 1st 2 rounds.

I hope he blows up at the Combine and improves his draft stock. The higher Bama players are drafted the more it helps our recruiting.

Morris Claiborne
Dre Kirkpatrick
Janoris Jenkins
Alfonzo Dennard
Jayron Hosley
Brandon Boykin
Cliff Harris
Coryell Judie
Chase Minnifield
Stephon Gilmore
De'quan Menzie

Todd McShay and the guy with the hair on ESPN said Bama has 17 future NFL guys and LSU has 10 future NFL guys.

drafts I have seen have one LSU player in first round, and two Bama players in first round.

pre season media had 6 or 7 Bama guys first team SEC and only Tyrann Matthieu for LSU on first team. I am guessing Mo Claiborne will make first team over Dre, but I could be wrong. Lots of football left. I hope Dre gets over his concussion and makes a complete recovery.

I am 100% confident that Tharold Simon gets drafted ahead of Mathieu.
