LSU was ranked #9 in last year's preseason rankings.

Texas preseason #1, finished 12th.
That's less of a difference than preseason LSU #11 to #1 this year.
The idea of moving 10 places from meaningless preseason rankings is actually less of a move than last year's preseason #1 and last year's post season #1

LSU was a higher pre-season last year than they are this year, but only by 2 spots. You're still pre-season #11.
We weren't scared of LSU then either. It's the SEC; the whole point is that none of us are scared of each other.
