Kansas has a football team?
Posted on 9/2/25 at 5:09 pm to Stripes314
Why would anyone but the fans of the 2 shitty teams involved, know anything about it. Hell, I had to Google it. I want that 3 min of my life back.

The funniest thing about the Missouri-Kansas rivalry is they’re both named after Union militia forces from their towns.
What’s even more bizarre is Mizzou fans larp as Confederates by rallying around a character known for guerrilla raids on Union camps in Kansas, focusing on his attack of Lawrence, KS.
I take it you were trying to make a point but I'm not sure what it is? The name of Mizzou Tigers has nothing to do with the generational animosity and hatred between people from MO and ks.

The Missouri Tigers are named after a Union militia from Columbia, MO.
WIKI: Missouri Tigers
It’s funny that both the Missouri Tigers and Kansas Jayhawks are named after their local Union militia while using the backdrop of the civil war as a huge foundational piece to their rivalry.
The ironic thing is, Clint Eastwood’s character in Outlaw Josie Wales, a Confederate, has been a defacto mascot for Missouri in this rivalry while the school is named after a Union militia.
Furthering the confusion of Mizzou cherry picking their identity, they have been promoting themselves as superior to southern characteristics when dealing with SEC members but when it’s Kansas they’re proud Confederate supporters.
Don’t be ridiculous and tell me Civil War history has nothing to do with Mizzou and Kansas rivalry when clearly and absolutely it does, and if it doesn’t than you all need to drop the Josie Wales and Quantrill content from your anti-Kansas arsenal.

Lot of roads and killings before Civil War.
John Brown was there.

Mizzou has as many 10 win seasons since 2023 as kansas has since 1906.

Of course the Civil War is the impetuous for the Border War rivalry with Kansass. What I said is the name of the Mizzou team being called the Tigers has nothing to do with the dislike between MO and KS, it's the history between the states....get a fricking history book and learn about the setup for the Civil War and you will understand the real hostilities began long before Fort Sumter on the MO/KS border.
From Google....
quote:
Missouri's “Little Dixie” is a section of the State where the local culture historically paralleled the Upper South. During the Antebellum period, massive waves of migrating Southern farmers and planters flooded the area and transplanted their slave dependent culture and economy. By 1860, Little Dixie had indeed become a microcosm of the South's plantation hierarchal society, a Southern enclave where distinctive cultural traits and attitudes matched those of the Antebellum South.
Here's some history for ya.......
This swath of MO is historically known as Little Dixie, it was settled by people from KY, TN, the Carolinas and other regions of the upper South. The Union flooded the state of MO in the late 1850's to early 1860's with newly arrived immigrants, largely Germans who fought for the Union in exchange for citizenship and land ownership.

Once again, the name of the Mizzou Tigers has nothing to do with the generational hatred between MO/KS.

You’ve doubled down on this despite that not being a point I made.
It’s amusing to me these two schools are both named after Union militias while the Civil War is such a prominent backdrop to the rivalry.
I find it ironic that a school named after a Union militia uses two Confederate characters as their defacto mascots against KU.
But the layer of all this irony that amuses me most is the Yankee focused, anti- southern attitude Mizzou fans have had since entering the SEC yet they proudly shift to rallying around Confederate themes when they play KU.
This shouldn’t be difficult to understand.
Hopefully the third time makes it clear.

Obviously you know nothing factual about our fan base. Those SEC fans that have either visited Columbia or interacted with us on their home front know we are respectful and friendly. The only anti-southern attitude is usually in response to disparaging us by trolls. So on this point you are wrong.
On your point about both schools mascots named based upon Union loyalty you are correct. What perhaps you don't understand is kansas was primarily a Union State while Missouri was divided. The Border War was between kansas redlegs and Missouri confederates. Redlegs burned Osceola Mo in 1861 after robbing the towns people. Quantrill led the burning of Lawrence in retaliation 2 years later in 1863. That's the Border War.

All available data points on Mizzou since entering the SEC shows an embrace of a more Yankee persona when dealing with the other SEC fanbases. That comes from what is most prevalent on social media, forums and what is witnessed in real life.
When Missouri entered the SEC and the many years after, there was a push to be a contrarian to the souther-thing, this is undeniable. Are you trying to deny that?

Oh no, I’m completely aware of history. Thank you, though.
In fact, I may be one of the few viewers of KU vs UNLV that understood why one team was in all grey.
What you’re not understanding is that’s kind of my point. Mizzou has an identity issue. I’m curious if the fans would like to pick one or if continuing to have their cake and eat it too is the plan?
Your school mascot is named after a Union militia, but your biggest rivalry is based on you being Confederate but you don’t want to be Confederate amongst SEC people, you want to be Yankees, but then you want to be Confederates again when it’s time to play Kansas.
I’m asking, would you folks make up your mind?
This Kansas thing has exposed a decade old position Mizzou fans have had with their SEC brethren.
Posted on 9/2/25 at 8:20 pm to Stripes314
Because of my hate for everything Kansas, I’ve always pulled for Mizzou when they’ve played them. I knew that they were natural rivals but I didn’t know the history in detail until Mizzou came to the SEC.
