Lately, it is a rivalry like a hammer and a nail are rivals. UGA is the hammer

Yep. The Bear and Dooley were afraid to play each other and take an L. Doesn't surprise me.

I believe Dooley beat Bear in Dooley’s rookie year as a HC if I’m not mistaken.

Georgia is next to Tennessee, Tennessee needs to recruit well in Georgia to be successful, and both are in the SEC east.

It's not a rivalry, it's just an important game between two traditionally good teams in the same division.

UGA fans were feeling themselves about turning the tide in that series

Not sure if this is supposed to be some kind of jab but we're 14-6 against them in that time..

UGA and Bama colluded with each other in the 60-70-80s to not play each other

I would have to see a link to justify that statement

What a bunch of garbage.Bama and UGA played regularly til the Saturday Evening Post game fixing artcle about Wally Butts and Bear. Both schools agreed not to play annually afterwords. Both Butts and Bear sued for libel.

Not really a clear answer as to why UT and
UGA didn't play for so many years but there's no evidence either school was avoiding each other.

No, I just wasn't expecting Georgia and Tenn fans to be talking like rivals when I first started using msg boards (early-mid 2000s)

Teams not liking each other doesn't make a rivalry. They had beaten us 9 in a row in the 90s and were still relevant in the early 2000s as richt came on. We ended the streak in 2000 then had the massive upset in 01, plus 2 more in a row. It was back and forth a while til Fulmer retired and we started dominating. In that early 00s time though it was definitely more heated and higher stakes than now, but again that doesn't automatically mean it's a rivalry.

the teams that won the conference during that time was Alabama and whoever didn't have to play Alabama, I doubt we were ever afraid to play Georgia

Gotcha. Is there much support for renewing the Clemson series? I've seen some UGA fans say they'd like to play Clemson and drop GT; like LSU dropped Tulane, but not as wide a chasm there with Jackets still a P5

Point being Dooley had nothing to do with cancelling of the series. It was an agreement between the administrations of both schools.

Had nothing to do with Dooley and Bryant
"dodging" each other.

We're not dropping tech. Since the 90s when we stopped playing Clemson regularly, we average playing them about twice a decade. 02/03, 13/14. We open up with them in a couple years then have another home and home.

I don't see that expanding much, we already have tech ooc along with typically another higher profile p5 team most years through the decade

The both have outstanding live mascots. Uga and Smokey are both National Treasures. The fan bases could have acrimony over which is one is better. Those 2 are easily in the Top 3 mascots of the SEC.

I used to post on a Vol board back in the early 90's that was actually pretty good for the era, but Georgia fans kept hacking it and would shut it down for long periods. LSU eventually gained a few good boards and the Vols became history! The moderator there was actually a diehard Vol fan and a pretty cool dude, I may have to look him up in this offseason.

Flarder got all pissy about Georgia regulating the flow of the Chattahoochee River by slowing water flow in the summer and fall months. It messes up fishing in the Apalachicola River Basin.
