Ladd McConkey
averaged 50 yards a game, or 153 per game in the NCAA. Not really a “diamond”.
He was the leading wide receiver on the college football championship team for 2022. A team that threw for 4100 yards and 27 TDs.
He also rushed for 134 yards.
Combined for 9 TDs (1 behind Brock Bowers. You may have heard of him)
And that was his sophomore year.
I'd take McConkey over Hyatt. Ladd actually can make contested catches. It is kind of a good trait in a wide receiver in addition to his 22+ mph speed.

We all know that Ladd was a Vol fan and didn't get an offer from his dream school.
Of course the Vols are hating on the kid from their own backyard.

3 star becomes an All Sec WR / NATIONAL champion = diamond

We’ve put a lot of 3 stars in the league through the years, so I’m confused with that you’re asking. You mean how many 2 stars to unranked to walks on we put in? The last one I could remember is the year we got the 12th man drafted in 2019, Cullen Gillaspia.

That's Stoops bread and butter. Josh Allen is a good example of it. He was committed to Monmouth at one point as a 2* product.
Randall Cobb just entered the chat.

Don't over-think it, I was just asking how you thought you're coaching staff was at developing players that were not in the 4 and 5 star recruit crowd, that's all.

Then we are pretty good at that except probably at WR. The “3 star” that has been exceeding expectations and will probably get drafted is Tyreek Chappell, starting CB. But that MFer started as a freshman, bc he was that good.

Stoops has put a pile of low ranked high school recruits into the league.
Josh Allen
Benny snell
Jamin Davis
Chris Rodriguez
Bud Dupree
Luke Fortner
Logan Stenberg
Zadarius Smith
Those are the few I can think of right off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more.

Gees dude, I realize this forum is pretty much a dwelling place for sarcasm, condescension, and fanbases attacking one another, but would it kill you to just ONCE answer a freaking thread question without trying to take some kind of shot at someone? My God man, did a UGA fan back over your favorite toy in their truck when you was a kid or something?

I’ll just say I’m extremely satisfied with that aspect of the Kentucky staff but I think it’s one part development, one part evaluation. Stoops is very adept at spotting guys who are undervalued.

I think you're right...being thorough in evaluating talent cannot be overstated.

I apologize then.
So far Huepel was able to turn around a throw away QB he didn’t recruit in Hooker and we shall see in one he did recruit in Milton. But that speaks more to his ability to coach up rather find low star recruits.
Maybe the example of Bryon Young fits better. A guy that had given up on football, decided to tryout at Georgia Military Academy and was found by Tennessee and was his 1st P5 offer. He’s now living his dream after being a 3rd round pick.
Or Jaylen Wright undersized 3* RB to 875 yards averaging 6 ypc.
Or Squirrel White an undersized 3* WR that has worked his way into a likely starting role.

Mizzou was once really good at this.

There are low star players who are athletic freaks but extremely raw out of high school (Jordan Davis, Eric stokes).
And there are players who are just ballers but don't have the athletic traits to stand out in an underwear olympics (Javon Bullard was the 82nd best CB in his high school class. Jamon Dumas-Johnson was the 31st best ILB in his high school class)
Theres plenty of low star players who are athletic freaks and polished

Was just about to ask where the Mizzou fans are. Pinkel was phenomenal at player development.

That or finding recruits that were being over looked. It's hard to tell unless you're in the program every day
