The strikeouts at QB have hurt you bad. But as far as the guy saying 7-5 based on talent? If the recruiting services are right, you should have the third best roster in the SEC over the last four years. You do play both teams, but that would mean you have more talent than the other 6 in conference.

Just like last year, we can't hardly beat anyone but Auburn!

I firmly believe our Oline and Dline will be much improved thus giving us a chance in all our hard games. I think we surprise people and the Miami game will set the tone. We had so little depth on the lines early in 2017 we got ran over as the game went on.

We also have such a shite Redzone offense last year with sub-par kicking that cost us a few games.

The lines are for sure upgraded IMO especially on the DLine. If we can figure out the Offense (LOL) I think 10-2 is extremely possible.

I really like our Defensive front 7.

I don’t see what the declarations that the defense will be dominate is based on. Any team with power rolled over LSU last year. One reason was only one true first quality linebacker was on the team which makes it tough to play any type of 3-4. Well...the same issue is present next year...freshmen linebackers don’t count for squat in the SEC. AND the secondary is inexperienced, and there is still lack of depth on DL. A single injury to a D starter could cause the entire unit to struggle.

Then you should research more. Half our starting Dline missed the first half of the season last year and we had no depth. The MSU game was close at half with our starting DT missing and the other playing on 1 ankle. As the game went, we had nothing in the tank.

O went and got a lot of game ready Dline talent in 2018 recruiting. People just see the final ranking of this class and shite on it, but it was immediate needs.

Logic tells you 8-5 or 9-4.

But sooner or later, we will finally have the pieces to have a break out year. This year the D will be dominant....Aranda is throwing in SO much more this year and will confuse the hell out of offenses. This will keep us in most games....lets just see if we finally can get a QB that put a team on his back and make the plays when it counts to get us the big wins. And that is obviously a big IF unfortunately

I don't disagree with any of this.

Come on man. You are on board with this?

Lawrence, Fehoko, and Alexander might end up being the best Dline in the SEC this year. White, Phillips, Tyler, Chaisson, Divinity, Queen and the others are going to be an awesome LB core. Nobody is going to "roll" through our front 7 this year.

The ONLY reason we couldn't stop people early in the year was so many were out on the Dline. Lawrence had an ankle, Herron was suspended, Alexander broke his arm, and one of the true freshman was out for a targeting.

LSU will play at least 4 teams that will be ranked in the preseason top 10.

If Coach O manages to go 8-4 or 9-3 with that schedule, I'll be convinced that he's a pretty good coach.

...and the rant would still melt.

I haven't really kept an eye on LSU yet for this year, but I really don't think O is very good. Aranda is a solid DC, not sold on the OC. LSU hasn't had very good QB play since mett and you lose your stud WR and RB. I will always expect LSU to have a capable defense.

With all that said the schedule looks brutal. I think 3rd in the west might be LSU's ceiling this year.

With a solid (not even great, just solid) QB, LSU has another national title or two over the last decade. And that is with Saban ruling the roost at Bama.

Its odd, Arkansas has had a string of talented QBs, but we've had trouble putting the other pieces together. LSU has all of the other pieces to the puzzle but they just can't seem to land a QB.

Did you know LSU hasn't finished higher than 3rd in the west since 2012

(nb4 Tennessee sucks and will never be good again)

Is 10+ wins a pretty common expectation for 2018 among LSU fans?

Not hardly. But we are saying that a good coach should be able to win that many games with the talent that we should have...should have I stress...but then the recruiter/motivator O happened, and recruiting didn’t happen like it has in almost 2 decades. And I think we all know about the good coach part...

I think LSU will surprise some people. As most have pointed out, the defense should be stout but there are obviously lots of question marks on the other side of the ball.

I honestly have no clue what to expect out of the offense. No, the Tigers do not have an elite runningback like in years past but LSU has fielded strong teams that did not boast an elite-NFL caliber running back, obviously. I think the Oline will be improved and the running game will find its groove at some point. Bama and UGA will be tough to run on regardless of who his toting the rock, so I wouldn't try and measure rushing success based on those two games but I think the Tigers' Oline holds its own against nearly everyone else on the schedule (Miss. St. could be a tricky one, yet again - #94 is really, really good). WR won't really be a concern either IMO. LSU (outside of 2013 w/ OBJ and Landry) has not particularly had a WR as the go-to option on Offense, but they still have very good athletes on the outside that can make the play. QB is a huge ??? and I'm going to go with recent history on this one and guess that the QB this year will be average to below average.

The Defense, as many have pointed out, will be the strength of this team. It will keep them in a lot of games. period. This is the main reason why I think LSU plays so many close games this year. Front 7 will be nasty - on the same level as Bama/UGA. Secondary is probably the weakest secondary unit LSU has had in the last 10 years, yet I do not doubt for a second that LSU will put some gamers on the field when the bright lights come on.

TL;DR

LSU will play lots of close games as their defense keeps them in nearly every game. Offense will probably struggle for much of the season and will cause lots of liquor to be consumed on Saturdays in the Bayou.

ETA - They lose 3 games best case scenario and 5 if the team completely unravels.
