Jesus. One win over a team with almost no returning starters, major injuries and major coaching staff changes, and you MSU folk think you've found God.

He has already had good defenses. It's a myth that he always has bad defenses.

I'm not going to look it up, but I read somewhere that he had the 16th rated defense one year at WSU. Had top 30 defenses at TT and WSU.

Even so, he's never won a division anywhere he's been. The SECW is NOT going to be the only one he can manage to win. It's the hardest one he's ever been in.

You guys need to slow your roll. You're 1-0 for Goodness sake. At least get to 5-0 or something before you get all lathered up about it.

Or even a good one.

Oklahoma doesn't play to their defense any more than Mike Leach. Kansas State just did open heart surgery on those guys again in the second half with a less than stellar offense. I doubt seriously that Leach will ever accumulate more defensive talent than they do in Norman.

Your offense should play to your defensive principles.

15-0, of course you could same the about Lincoln Riley and he can't build a defense even with top 10 recruiting classes.

People said the same thing about LSU last year but LSU’s defense figured it out and was great the last four games of the season.

LSU recruited great defensive players prior to installing that great offense, and their recruiting is - let's face it - significantly better than Mississippi State's.

Someone might say "Oh, State is still a top 25 recruiting school".

1. True, but barely. LSU is a top 5 recruiting school.
2. The difference between a #5 and #25 is typically greater than between the #25 and #70. The downward slope gets really steep after the first 4-5 spots, typically.
3. LSU has a reputation for great defensive players, dating back to well before Orgeron. MSU tends to have flashes and occasional great players, but never a sustained batch of first round talent on defense like LSU.

The two scenarios are not even remotely comparable.

Wazzou was #13 amongst P5 schools in total defense (323 yards per game) in 2017.

They still lost 4 games.

If I was a gambling man, I’d bet that State makes a play for OUs DC Grinch. Guy is a stud and will fall on the sword if OU loses another couple games. He is a great mind and built a great D from scratch with Leach at Washington State. Now that Leach is at a program that will pay good $ for a coordinator that’s the play.

It became an issue because LSU was still in man coverage so Leach was still taking shots

Leach still throws 50-60 times a game even when he's blowing the other team out, he just doesn't run the ball much in any situation.

Leach already has a defensive coordinator. And he's a good one.

He had 2 seasons at Tx Tech where the offense averaged over 100 rushing yds per game and a 3rd season avg 99.4 yds per game.

Is that enough though?

2019 LSU is often used here as an example of a pass heavy team and it was said that they struggled to run the ball yet they averaged almost 170 yards per game.

Man, if only Luke Falk hadn't regressed so damn much.

What could have been that year indeed.

A 5 yard pass is 5 yard run on some teams.
Time of possession is the real indicator.
If you ask him he will say he runs a ball control offense.

Explain, please. What about a high scoring offense will not allow for a great defense?

This is the dumbest and most overused narrative about Mike Leach's offense that's out there.

Leach's offense is a ball control offense. His teams usually control time of possession.

You're actually correct. Here's where Washington State has ranked in fewest opposing plays per game over the past six years.

2014- 39th
2015- 88th
2016- 39th
2017- 28th
2018- 29th
2019- 72nd

It's a myth that Mike Leach offenses wear out their defenses by having quick drives. They're really not out on the field that much. His defenses have been shite because they have inferior athletes compared to their competition.

True but a quarterback can always have an off day and putting the ball in the air is infinitely more risky than running it.

Well if I recall correctly, he put out some good Texas Tech and Washington State teams.. Not like his teams were garbage.. They were actually pretty damn good... Plus you guys are all acting like LSU is the new Vanderbilt... Please!! Even for all of the shite that they have gotten (well deserved shite) they're still talented and will have a winning season..

He's a career .600 coach and before anyone points it out, yes, I'm aware that O is too but O started in a huge hole because Ole Miss and Leach has a much larger body of work.

Coach Bryant used to say there's only three things that can happen when you throw the ball, and two are bad.
