How dangerous could a Mike Leach team be if he ever gets a defense?

Maybe moving to the SEC where defensive football culture is trying to hang on more than anywhere else will help him. Mike Leach’s problem is that while he’s torching teams his own defense is getting torched at the same time. The Mississippi State defense didn’t look fantastic on Saturday but it looked good enough to help them win games. If he can get anything out of his defense at his years at Mississippi State he can build a pretty good program.

That offense will never allow for a great defense.

People said the same thing about LSU last year but LSU’s defense figured it out and was great the last four games of the season.

*got healthy

LSU in 2019 was vastly different than a Mike Leach offense, namely in that they ran the ball almost twice as much as he usually does.

Because that has anything to do with this thread.

You can have a good defense even if you have a fast potent offense. That line of thinking was put to bed.

You don’t need a great defense with it either goofy. Middle to top half will make us a thorn in the whole SEC’s side till he decides to retire.

I am more interested to see how he effects local recruiting. If you are a LA HS highly ranked WR, you gonna go play for O or Leach? A QB in AL. Wanna sling it around? Leach. He is gonna be an issue.

Only one player from that defense played Saturday.

People said the issue was LSU scored too quickly to give the defense time to rest. It doesn’t matter if you score quickly passing 98% of the time or if you run it more.

Is the crowning achievement of Leach’s care beating a depleted LSU team?

Clemson scores quick, their D is usually pretty tough

Yeah LSU was 37 pass, 33 rushes last year on average. Quite a bit different lol. That being said, a lot of Leach short passes are similar to runs.

This is the dumbest and most overused narrative about Mike Leach's offense that's out there.

Leach's offense is a ball control offense. His teams usually control time of possession.

Only because of a couple bad turnovers and long TDs.

ETA: first half, State dominated TOP
