sidewalk fans are always an issue for any fan base, Bama's problem is that they're sidewalk fans are made up of basically every stupid person who couldn't attend a college but needs some sort of proxy validation that their own life can't provide in the sunbelt. Whereas for example LSU may have plenty of coonasses but it also has a lot of people who attended Tulane for say Law School or whatever and got caught up in it.

I honestly think that if Saban addressed each incident we could find some progress. Like he said don't do that/that's bad/treat people, especially those with differing opinions, with respect.

I also think other Bama fans need to demand more out of their fellow Bama fans. It's not all about them....

For example I was disgusted when I heard that Bama fans were getting their picture taken with Updyke in NOLA before 2011 BCS. Same with the teabagger(although I think his sentence was ridiculous).

If I saw Updyke tomorrow It would take all I had to not go over and ridicule him.

don't really care about the outliers since everyone has them, but our success the last few seasons seems to have brought out more and more of them, so i agree with this ... saban should come and say "quit acting like an arse" ... and i'd probably say something to updick myself ...

while I agree bandwagoners are some of it, that's not the whole story-- when Nebraska was on a similar 3 in 5 role in the 90s you didn't hear about this kind of shite going on.

I lived amongst a lot if Nebraska fans during that time and they're pretty insufferable too, but nowhere near the Bama fans.

Plus it's hard say Bama football is more important in AL than Husker football is in NE. It's probably a tie at best. NE is also filled with plenty of white trash

The suggestions you make are great and all but you wrongly assume that the sidewalkers committing the acts log on to websites like these where they could see fans calling out their behavior. The other major problem is that contrary to popular opinion you really don't see the types of fans that commit these acts at games.

The only two times in the last several years an incident happened right in front of me that was totally uncalled for was when a drunk frat star Bama fan made a smart arse comment to an Oklahoma fan and ran off before kickoff of the 2003 game in BDS. I apologized to the OU fan and he told me not to worry about it and that everyone had been wonderful to him and he was having a great time. The other incident wasn't as big of a deal and happened a couple of years ago at a Waffle House in Mobile. The waitress serving me made a fairly tame but still rude comment about a customer's Auburn hay trying to be funny while making it known she was a Bama fan. Maybe I should have said something but I wrote War Eagle on the check and didn't leave a tip even though I had a script A hat on. The waitress thought I would approve of the joke but it was my little way of trying to straighten out a sidewalk Bammer.

I'm sure people have their picture taken with Nick Nolte when he's in public too. I don't think it's because they strive to be like him. I think it's more of a "Here, take my picture with this crazy son of a bitch" thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he got a few high fives from some idiots but I believe the vast majority of Bama fans laugh at Updyke and not with him.

I mean yea other fan bases give a shite about it because it's humorous to see the next thing a bama fan does to embarrass the rest of the Alabama fan base.

Like I said, that kind of shite doesn't interest me, coming from any fanbase.

, but don't act like it doesn't embarrass a portion of your fan base that would be considered normal.

You're missing my point. I don't give enough of a frick about it to embarrass or bother me: the people who perpetrate the stupid stuff, or the "normal people" who get embarrassed because of it. It has nothing to do with me as a person.

How can Alabama fans stop rednecks from doing redneck things? Well, that is a million dollar question isn't it.

fwiw, I would too if I saw him an he allowed it. It's kinda funny imo. I doubt most of the people getting their pictures taken with him are doing it because they are proud of what he did or anything. They got a picture with him as a joke, more than likely.

Also, the guy is a bit insane BUT it was a fricking tree. Billions get cut down daily. Where the shite is the outrage over that?

Plant 10 more trees in its absence, Auburn fans. Hippies.

I mean it wasn't just a tree, but I'm not going to get into that. Updyke is a retard and got what he deserved, especially after going full retard and announcing he did it on the radio.

people could stop reporting every crime in alabama where someone involved happens to be wearing an alabama hat or shirt (like 75% of the population) and attributing it to the university of alabama football program as the cause. just a thought

It would help if they stopped using family reunions as dating mixers, and added some branches to those family trees.

Are you fricking serious? He destroyed a historical landmark and potentially contaminated the water. Tons of tax dollars wasted on testing went to it. You justifying this?

No, no. Forget that rational thought and all that bullshite. We cause EVERYTHING! Take credit for EVERYTHING. That's what I've started on every thread. It's rather amusing, if only to myself.

the best part is most bama fans don't understand it from that point of view. Harvey wasn't smart enough to think about possibly contaminating water, it was all about killing the tree over a auburn win.

Yes. It was just a tree. I speak in facts, like Ghandi.

Now he contaminated the water? Don't go overboard here. He killed a tree. Auburn fans rolling the tree was also killing it. Let's not split facts though.

Seriously? If that's factual, that's sad.

Where'd ya get this? I stated exactly "the guy is a bit insane".

Did anyone cry and shite over this though? It was a tree. A tree is not a physical thing with a soul. Perspective. Some of you need to find it.

I'm sure if someone put some dynamite in Denny Chimes and blew it to hell, you would have not problem with that.

I'd start a thread about how crazy said person's fanbase is and try and bump it to 30 pages.

THEN...
I'd want that person to be persecuted (much like updyke), do their time and then be normal again. Then I'd want my school to rebuild / replant said item and move along with my life.

Would lose 0 nights of sleep over it.
