The only reason anybody has been able to "close a gap" on Texas since 2012 is because Texas has ranged from average to just plain awful in football almost every season since.

All things considered, Texas has done pretty decent in every other sport in that time period, especially since 2018 when they hired an AD that actually knew wtf is going on (and that's with Texas baseball being in their worst decade ever as well)

How about A&M wins the division of its conference before we claim they did anything in a big way.

A lot of Texas big cigars have wanted to be in the SEC for a long time. Texas likely could have joined at any time. Why now? It is no accident that Texas was announced as joining the SEC a month after the SCOTUS Alston decision. Texas never wanted SEC level cheating in Texas. Now that paying players is legal, there was no reason for Texas not to join the SEC.

Let’s not pretend we were lily white. This was a good business decision in the midst of realignment. That’s the timing of this.

I know fans like to rag on Nutt for not doing more with talent at Arkansas but he was fun at least. Especially when you follow him up with shitbags like Petrino and Bert. I think he would be fun to play for.

Riiiiight. Y'all shite on the SEC for a decade and called everyone here bunch of dumb rednecks but then y'all saw how far behind you were falling and suddenly became Mona-Lisa Saperstein w/your hand out begging for money.

Falling behind who? Aggy? Don't make me laugh! You failures had a full decade head start and you have frickall to show for it. Now the fun's over and you're going back under the boot. Poor aggy!

Nothing says "falling behind" and "begging for money" like being recognized as the best athletic department for the past two years straight while also leading the nation in revenue during that time period..

And you think the university of Texas board of trustees thought they could keep up with that kind of revenue being in the Big12 or independent? If so, they would've NEVER joined the meat grinder that is the SEC. Anyone saying Texas WANTED to be in the SEC before now is just stupid. Texas NEEDS the SEC. NOT the other way around.

Thanks for the link. Nut's fun to listen to. He's still got the passion.

I honestly miss Hootie in the SEC.

Yep he had potential with the McFadden teams but blew those opportunities.

Yes, I do think Texas could have kept pace with the B1G and the SEC in regards to revenue as an independent.

Maybe we will and maybe we won't but it's going to be fun seeing how we measure up after a few years. I've said it before and I'll say it again I love this move for the simple reason that it's going to force our athletic department tp nut up or just accept mediocrity

As far as Revenue goes no we don't need the SEC but if we want to strive to be the best we can be we need the SEC very badly because it ain't happening in the Big 12

I, and this is my personal opinion, think this is more of a writing on the wall move by Texas and Oklahoma.

They knew the Big 12 was on life support but they always had the fall back plan of the PAC-12. Then the PAC-12 imploded. Maybe the Big 10 takes them... maybe it doesn't. But the SEC will take them because they more or less fit in our footprint.

Arkansas left the SWC because we knew the conference was going under and we didn't want to be stuck playing musical chairs and potentially wind up in the WAC.

When a ship is sinking you don't want to be last guy on the lifeboat.

Winning the most national titles in the past 3 years while maintaining solid status in the rest of the sports says otherwise.

Don't really think Texas needs anybody, nor does the SEC. I think both Texas and the SEC see a mutual benefit. Like I said: it's a business decision.

Texas has won the Director's Cup 2 years running...

In winning the 2022 Directors Cup, Texas had ...
4 National Championships,
6 NCAA Runner up finishes,
12 NCAA top-5 finishes, and
14 NCAA Top 10 finishes.

Of the 20 NCAA sports Texas participates in, 10 of them finished 1st or 2nd.

A&M ... so far in 2022-23'...

Volleyball: 13-16 and missed the NCAA tournament
Football: 5-7 and missed a bowl game
Men's cross country: Did not qualify for the NCAA championships
Women's cross country: Did not qualify for the NCAA championships
Women's basketball: 9-20 and missed the NCAA tournament

Women's soccer: 9-7-5, lost in 1st round NCAA tournament to Texas
Men's basketball: Lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament
Men's tennis: Lost in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament
Men's indoor track and field: 32nd place at the NCAA championships
Women's swimming and diving: 25th place at the NCAA championships
Women's indoor track and field: 14th place at the NCAA championships
Men's swimming and diving: 14th place at the NCAA championships

Women's tennis: Lost in the Elite 8 (good for you)

Men's golf: Still alive in NCAA tournament
Women's golf: Still alive in NCAA tournament
Baseball: 30-22, last week of conference play

So far, A&M has ONE top 10 program on campus, but they are closing the gap?

You can explain this until you're blue in the face, but gumps will still respond with "but muh ES-EE-SEE!!!"

What's hilarious is not one sport (literally, not a single one) can claim they were better than Texas this year. If they don't get it together in the last three sports you mentioned, the aggies will go 0/20

But you know... they closed that gap and all

ETA: lol look how mad the longhorn fans made all the SEC dickriders in this thread by only telling the truth
