Houston Nutt with the question we're all asking about OU and Texas joining the SEC...

They could cast dale nutt as Baby Billy on The Righteous Gemstones and he'd pull it off quite admirably.

It is interesting. Texas and Oklahoma are national brands that don’t need a conference. All this is going to do is prove their programs are all hat and no cattle.

He said it himself: they're brand names. And with the way conference realignment is shaping up, they made the right move to go to a superior league than stay back in a makeshift Big 12.
Not to mention the SEC offers a lot more than just football. It's still a very strong league in basketball, the best league in softball and baseball, and very reputable in numerous other women's and men's sports (tennis, golf, t&f, etc.)
Most fans are excited while understanding both schools may take some time to settle in for certain sports. But neither school is particularly scared of the challenge either.
Plus, the addition will just add that much more to the gameday atmospheres across all sports

The role was made for Freeze

You could've joined any time you wanted. No need to get out in front of this. Nebraska probably needed to. If the opportunity arose for a school like Okie State? Sure.
And honestly, I'm not sure it's easier for OU or Texas to make a 12 team playoff in the SEC as it is to make a four team playoff in the Big 12.

Thanks for the link. Nut's fun to listen to. He's still got the passion.

We’re doing it to piss in A&M’s cheerios.

A sensible Texas fan? I had only heard stories of these until now.
Well done, sir.

One of my favorites.
The man has SEC DNA in him.

Not the primary reason, but an amusing fringe benefit.

Nutt's a cool dude that loves to talk. I met him at the SEC meetings in Destin one year. He was sitting in the hotel lobby one morning. I walked by and gave a simple "mornin' Coach Nutt". Next thing I know it's and hour later and I'm still sitting there with him talking about football, family, and whatever else popped into his mind.

Master of doing so little with so much…

He’s not wrong - however with the expanded playoff it will arguably be very helpful to be 10-2 in the SEC as opposed to 10-2 in the Big12 and make the playoff.

I think the last decade has demonstrated that even the most powerful athletic programs are better off in a strong conference. Aggy, at least on paper, closed the gap to Texas in a big way since joining the SEC. The Longhorns saw the writing on the wall, and as one Texas poster so eloquently put it, they had to "piss in Aggy's cheerios" by joining the SEC fun.
Notre Dame will eventually reach the same conclusion. It's all fun and games until Northwestern and Purdue are pulling in $50 million per year more than you just from media rights.

Riiiiight. Y'all shite on the SEC for a decade and called everyone here bunch of dumb rednecks but then y'all saw how far behind you were falling and suddenly became Mona-Lisa Saperstein w/your hand out begging for money.

I think it’s both about the money and about neutering your ability to sit in a recruit’s living room and tell them they can represent their home state in the big leagues.
Especially now that paying players is legal. “… and we will pay you just as much as Texas!” would be tough to beat even if we weren’t dogshit for the last decade.

It's a business decision. Honestly, the SEC was probably the one that approached Texas and OU after discovering what a failure the cultists from college station had shown themselves to be
