If you had a do-over, would you try and keep Gabriel and let Arnold walk? Assuming that was the situation.

No. I still think Arnold will be a very good QB.

We would be better right now with Gabriel but his ceiling is low and it would be only for a year.

Gabriel had his one shining moment against Texas. After that, he was so-so. I do believe Arnold is capable of more but he’s too rattled and does whatever before he thinks. It’s early. A competent OL may allow Arnold to be better at what he does.

His ceiling may be higher, but the floor also appears lower. I would like your chances in the SEC this year with Gabriel.

Jury is out on arnold, not looking good at the moment, but protection is awful....gabriel has a weak arm and can only dink and dunk (and his release is incredibly slow)...deep passes by him are always floaters.

I don't think it's a matter of who's taking snaps. You got an offensive line that's pretty terrible, so we can't protect a QB, create holes to establish a run and when a defense knows that DBs can hang back and cover the deep ball. Take everything I just said and then four of our top receivers are out, our #1 center is out... The offense is trashed. Thank God we have a defense at this point but it's not going to win games once we get into conference play.

Nobody ever admits they would change their mind in a do-over.

Insecurity is #1 today. False Ego is #2.

Honest reflection is down to like #98.

Don't even bother.

It's not like he's lighting it up for Oregon. They have struggled in both of their games.

Like others have said, when the o line is this bad, it's difficult no matter who the qb is. I feel like JA has much better escapability than DG had.

Gabriel was and still is very limited. Hes been mediocre for Oregon so far. Jackson Arnold has a ton of arm talent, but so did Spencer rattler. I believe Michael Hawkins will start at QB for OU by the Texas game. He’s the better QB of the three IMO. The offensive line played well last night, OU looked really bad because Arnold looked really bad.

Not Gabriel but I would like Hawkins to be given a chance if JA doesn’t pan out. Apparently Hawkins keeps showing out JA at practices.

I have nothing but gut intuition, but I doubt Gabriel leaving was a decision of the coaching staff. My guess is Gabriel knows he isn’t a NFL QB, so he checked his options on where he could make a decent chunk of money in his last year of eligibility. I certainly don’t fault him for that. OU wouldn’t have been willing to match it with 5-star Arnold in the wings, so they let him go. In hindsight, there’s no question Gabriel is the better QB right now. I’m not sure how successful he would behind this Oline though, and that might have factored in as well.

That’s a long way of saying, ‘no, I don’t think our coaches regret their decision,’ and ‘I’m not it would have mattered right now anyways.’ Arnold has a long way to go just to get to Gabriel’s level, and he needs the entire offense to step up with him. QB, RB, WR, and Oline have all been underwhelming so far.

No . DG stepped up to beat Texas but on the season as a whole he was inaccurate beyond 25 yards. DG does avoid interceptions and mistakes. With DG you dont get long passes just short throws and hope for YAC.

JA needs experience but i kinda thought he would be there by now since he sat for a year.

JA does have a much better arm and a very quick release and is a better runner.

I think the Sooners took the UH game lightly due to ULV beating UH but Willie Fritz had portaled in 37 players and once they learn the systems they will be good. UH has size and speed.

OU has a history of taking UH too lightly…..

JA needs some coaching on decision making and he will be great.

Yes, when the starter sucks, the backup is always better.

Hawkins played in the first game. His passing was not nearly as good as Jackson’s. Hawkins is very quick/fast running and that aspect is better than Jackson but the passing is key.

Nah. We have two really good qb’s. We know our defense is solid. We haven’t been playing our best players which I agree with that decision. I realize we looked like crap but we still got the W. Many teams didn’t.
