Mike Gundy has been the Oklahoma State coach since 2005, but he has flirted with opportunities elsewhere. In fact, Gundy interviewed for the same vacancy multiple times.

Three separate times in his tenure at Oklahoma State, Gundy interviewed for the Tennessee football head coach position, most recently in 2017. As for why Tennessee, the Oklahoma State head coach said that vacancy always interested him.

“I always felt like that job was a gold mine,” Gundy said, via ESPN’s Chris Low.

Gundy is the longest-tenured Big 12 head coach and the third-longest tenured head coach in the power five conferences, behind only Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz and Utah’s Kyle Whittingham. In his Oklahoma State career, Gundy has a .683 winning percentage with 16 straight winning seasons.

Tennessee, meanwhile, has had six different coaches since Gundy took over Oklahoma State, with eight winning seasons total and only one double-digit win seasons.

Instead they let Clay Travis hire a coach who will get them a bowl ban with a losing record

I wonder why on earth they didn't hire him? He'd be a great fit for that program, right down to the mullet.

Gundy's face at 2:04 into the video while watching Alabama win another title makes that win even better. He's such a salty dude.

He got on the outs with Pickens and company for a while. OSU finally realized what they had and locked him into a big contract.

He was right. The bastard got a nice raise everytime he was interviewed.

My Tennessee friends told me this a long ago. Gundy just used it to get raises out of Okie State.

He probably thinks mustard goes on hot dogs not football fields. That's a deal breaker at UT

Gundy is a solid coach. He could easily leave OSU and anyone they replaced him with wouldn’t be considered an upgrade.

He was never leaving. Way less pressure at osu and he only used Tenn to get pay raises. He has a great gig and little to no pressure to make playoffs. Their only goal is to try and win B12 or beat OU. He’s a good coach for osu but folds under pressure. Osu won’t do better so they cave to his tactics.
