People fail to see that Purdue would have gotten the ball anyways. And this one falls on your coach. Take the points. If he doesn’t like field goals, then he should find another career. Situational coaching is a “thing.”

There was a moment before he reached where he was completely stopped, motionless. A lot of plays like that don’t get stopped because it’s not as clear to the officials that he isn’t moving.

Ok so does the whistle blowing not end the play anymore? How many times have we seen an inadvertent whistle stop a play that shouldn't have been stopped yet they couldn't allow whatever the result was because the whistle had blown. So in this case it was essentially the opposite. How was the play deemed to be over when the whistle hadn't blown yet. By the time it did the ball had crossed the goal line. Should've been a touchdown.
Also look at the long touchdown Purude had by the tight end late in the game. They could've deemed his forward progress was stopped but they let it play a little longer without blowing the whistle and he spun out the tackle and scored. What if they had gone back and said his progress was stopped even though the whistle didn't blow so it's not a touchdown? That would've been bullshite just like the call against Tennessee was.

The whistle is the audible indicator of the refs already made decision. Once the ref decides the play is over it is over whether or not a whistle is blown after he made the decision. I used to coach high school football, I understand it is frustrating. But it’s the refs decision when progress has been stopped.

And if you listen you can hear the whistle blown before the RB was dragged into the end zone by his teammate. The whistle was blown before he ever crossed the goal line. You can always see the ref running in to wave the play over before the guy was drug in. The play was done when forward progress stopped. It was a good call
