99 times out of 100 that play isn’t whistled dead for forward progress. Even when you listen and watch the replay, the whistle didn’t blow until after he crossed the goal line. It should have been a TD.

One of the greatest calls in sports history. Perfectly executed by an elite officiating crew.

Clear as day his progress was stopped. Not even sure why folks are upset

It’s not a touchdown but all year officials have extended the play after forward progress stopped. It’s borderline rugby sometimes

He was never down. That should've been a TD.

I mean, frick Tennessee, but that was a touchdown. The announcers clearly thought it was.

Isn’t pulling the ball carrier illegal? I know you can push but… It probably should have been a TiDdie with a penalty. Purdue could have taken the penalty and UT attempt a fg.
If fwd progress is stopped blow the damn whistle but he reached the ball across before down by contact or the whistle.
I know I could look up the rule but I’d rather ask tRant.

Clearly stopped short of the goal line, verified by replay officials.

It's against the rules but the ref didn't call it and more importantly its never called. I linked an article earlier and the last time it was called was during a nfl game in 1991.
However that's not what we're debating. We are debating whether or not his actual physical forward progress was stopped. Most of us believe it wasnt.

Tennessee should have been flagged for illegal touching or whatever it’s called. Teammates can’t pull a runner forward. Tennessee lineman pulled the runner forward and he extended the ball across the goal line.
Since he scored, Purdue would have accepted the penalty and Tennessee would have another 4th down attempt after the penalty yards.
Tennessee probably attempts a field goal then.

TD Tennessee. Runner was still churning forward, was on top of Purdue player, reached ball over goal line and then whistle blew.
Touchdown. No penalty called for pulling by refs.

I think it was a gutsy call to go for the win in that situation. Kudos to Heupel for playing to win. But he was being “pulled” forward by a teammate. He was down.
And for the record, frick you Ted
