A few days ago I was roundly mocked and ridiculed for stating that imo from info I was reading that herd immunity was fast gaining traction (teams on campus). If you remember the shock when LSU reported 30 players tested positive a few weeks ago. Sounds bad that many on one team, but that meant probably a lot more for other teams too, and those high percentage positive test numbers definitely trend for herd immunity imo going forward. The silver lining behind the dark cloud if you will. Commish Stankey yesterday:

“Our numbers are way down from the low single digits to zero,” Sankey told Clay Travis. “One of my presidents said, ‘Hey, I feel comfortable we can support and oversee and keep people healthy.”

So again, imho I feel confident that SEC football is gonna happen this fall. In fact I'm changing my opinion from early Oct. kickoff to 50/50 chance of early to mid September.

I want a video link of a qualified health expert claiming this. Until then don't believe you. We will have a season..but not in September. Unless a drastic improvement happens all over the country by late August.

Also, they put 20,000 in the stands at a NASCAR race last night. Mask only required on entrance. You could take it off when you got to your seat.

Yep, and in the interview Sankey also referenced that too, NASCAR.

First, put some context behind your numbers. What are “our numbers” - based on number of football players who are being tested? That’s great and all but when all students return to campus it’s going to be a shite show.

You know what I read? That if everyone wore a mask when they are indoors, and unable to social distance, then we’d have this thing under control in 4-8 weeks.

Still don’t understand why people won’t wear masks.

Go ahead and downvote away.

So you don't believe Sanky, the commissioner of the SEC who gets his stats directly from SEC presidents, who get their stats directly from doctors working directly with the teams???

We are nowhere even close to having the numbers for herd immunity. Just wear a damn mask.

Context for me is the numbers Sanky quoted, i.e. "low single digits to zero." I'm optimistic then that the teams are getting healthy enough to play in a few weeeks. AS for the fans and generanl public I see your point and definitely a concern. I can envision early games with low numbers allowed in stadiums, but at least we can have a full or near full season. Hopefully by mid season stadiums will be full with fans wearing masks....did it during the Spanish Flu pandemic a hundred years ago. BTW I give you up vote for stating your opinion well, logically

Herd immunity for the football teams, not the whole country. If teams have herd immunity they can play, even if it's in near empty stadiums. At least we'll have a season and get to watch on TV. yes, fans will wear masks if required to attend, just like they did during Spanish flu....see the photo of thousands of GA. Tech fans with masks many decades ago.

80% of the players would have to have contracted COVID - including the entire coaching staff and every single person a player comes in contact with. Again - we are not even close to that.

Proof they work?

Cases are rising in places they are mandated.

LSU did not have 30 players test positive. That's how many were placed in quarantine.

LINK

Cases rising could be for a number of reasons.
1. People not following mandates.
2. People already infected before mask mandates testing positive after mandates go into effect.

At the end of the day why wouldn’t you wear a mask if there’s a chance it helps? It’s not a sign of weakness or giving into fear. It’s a sign of being a decent human being.

Ok, I am wearing one. It’s mandated in my county and I don’t want crazy Karen’s videoing me.

But there is no proof that the masks are working. It’s just become something to blame the cases on. Ignoring the protests, marches, and riots that actually spread it.

Because some people value ideology over facts. It’s dangerous stupidity.

What? There's plenty of proof that masks help to stop the spread of the virus. You're buying into the political bullshite in social media. Listen to the medical experts all over the world instead of some crap a cousin posted on Facebook.

we have had qualified health experts telling us that you can't go to church or get a haircut because you are killing grandma, but gathering by the hundreds of thousands, screaming for hours on end does not spread the virus, this uptick had to be because you are at a restaurant. They also said masks are dumb don't wear them, oh wait now you have to wear them and if you don't you are killing grandma. The public health officials are allowing politics to influence their recommendations.

Several reasons.
-The stronger more durable ones are hard to breathe through
-The cheaper throw away ones that I can breathe through keep breaking
-It fogs up my glasses and I can't see
-People can't hear me very well on the phone
-It sucks when you are at the bar, whoops, I mean "restaurant" playing golden tee and have to take the damn thing down to swill you beer

I still wear one, but these are reasons I don't like doing it.

I don't think anyone likes wearing a mask, but if it were up to me I wouldn't wear pants most of the time either lol. A minor inconvenience is fine with me if it helps even a little bit or makes others feel safer.

The people I don't get are ones who would rather yell and cuss out a Subway employee because they can't get a sandwich instead of just wearing one for 5 seconds, getting their food and leaving.
