Joining vs Leaving, not a valid analogy at all. And GFY if you are a person joining the army with no intention to serve if the US gets into a conflict after you join.
Where did you serve? I had zero issue with Afghanistan and went 3 times. Iraq was dumb from day 1. And I was a 12B so wasn't like I was hanging out at the Green Beans Coffee for 15 months.
GFYS if this nation was at war for 20 years and you stayed home shoveling crap in Louisiana while calling out those that did go. I am in no way saying everyone had to or needed to go, but you seem like one of those "I'd have joined but the first time Drill Sgt got in my face I'd have punched him" types. Clearly I did intend as rather than play any games I went. I just came back a lot wiser about what it was all about. But you go on seeing the world through your star spangled eyes there chickenhawk

What you don’t seem to grasp is if a conference cannot stop them from returning then which rules can be enforced or challenged in court? That’s the issue and it’s not going away moving forward
This case won't change that. The "rules and regulations" of college sports are mostly tradition and not actually defensible in court, so they'll eventually all fall.
There is really no legal argument for limited eligibility. For instance, a player could technically play as long as they remain enrolled.

Ppfffffttt sit down
I didn't finish it....the difference in high school and college coaching is significant. Then from college to professional is a bigger leap.
Can I stand back up, now?

Signing a contract with a professional team is significantly different than signing an NIL contract with a school. Damn, yall are dense.
I was talking more about revenue sharing but do expound, non dense one.

That you're a frickin retard for comparing the 2.
I agree. I mean one of them was a war of choice sold to the American People on some dubious assumptions that 4000+ people died in while the other is football and money. Clearly the later is the more serious issue lol

Harris, apparently, wasn't, as he only received a gas stipend.
He was the one that really got gypped. He signed an UDFA contract after the draft and (I think) only got $190...like you said for gas or whatever.

No, that is convenient. They were employees of professional sports teams. The timing of the announcement sucks but what do you want...sometimes life is like that

No neither were drafted or made a team. They are less professional and made far less than most college players. It’s crazy.
I don't think it's about that. I believe it's a matter of the NCAA/SEC said I rules don't permit it. Then to put it simply Lane said screw the rules I'll do what I please. Now both sides can't back down for fear of losing face as the say.
This evening teams have to declare their roster for tomorrow's game. I don't think we'll see either of those guys on LSU's. At least I hope not for CFB's sake.

I think one hangup for a lot of average fans is they believe these kids signed a contract and immediately received millions of dollars.

sounds like you joined for the right reasons
I mean I joined to go fight the dudes that knocked down buildings on 9-11. To my knowledge both then and now Sadaam wasn't involved

When athletes keep seeing other athletes go to court and skirt the rules, they're going to want to do it too.

None of the guys we are talking about got rich.
For me the real travesty, is they came out with the 5 for 5 rule after these guys had participated. It's impossible to say for sure, but they probably would not have left college had the NCAA come out with the rule earlier.
But, the NCAA reminds me of the government. Every time they try to fix a problem, they make it worse.

So if I wanted to put 15 players on defense instead of
11 I could take the NCAA to court and win?
How bout if I signed 70 guys to scholarship 1 year and 200 on the roster? You think that would "fall"
Do tell.
Where exactly did you go to law school?
Weren't you the guy on here who was always defending Brian Kelly? How'd that work out?

What the hell are you talking about? How is any of that relevant? I really struck a nerve, apparently.
My point was that you (not you specifically) know and assume the risk when joining the army that you may get called up to action. You are there to serve, so what you said did not make sense, especially in the argument in this thread.
I have much respect for anyone who's served in the armed forces, so you are way off. Even though I disagreed with what we did in Iraq, I do not hold an ounce of animosity to anyone that served there.

I'd be curious if that's still the case today, with college salaries being so much more competitive now.
That's a good question. Like I said, my buddy was playing when Landry was still coaching, so knowing he was a year younger it would have been around 1981 or so he would have been drafted.

It'd be interesting to talk to some players on the topic. I'm sure more football is coached as the pro staffs have less administrative and roster duties.

I'm speaking more to eligibility requirements and that type of thing.
Not sure how Brian Kelly is related, my opinion on him in unchanged. He's a good coach, not great, not elite. I personally think he just couldn't handle the NIL/portal era.

No, you just presumed to know why I joined and told me to GF myself.
What exactly did you expect? Were those of us that went to Iraq not allowed to question it? And yeah, after going there and seeing it first hand, no, I'm not sure I'd do it again. Same with Afghanistan. Why would I? To spend 3 years of my life in that hole losing friends to turn around and give it back to the guys we spent 20 years fighting? You are damned right I'd tink twice about doing it again. If you feel otherwise there is one going on now you can get into.

Yeah, you do assume some risk. But you also assume your government is going to be truthful about the reasons they expose you to that risk. Much like these guys were victims of the NCAA's bad timing. We were lied to by our government. If they get a do over why would it be so crazy for us to expect a do over. I mean I get it...football is super important.
