Yeah, hopefully my original comments didn’t inadvertently downplay it because for about 20-30 years, it didn’t get much bigger than Nebraska-Oklahoma the week of Thanksgiving.

Oklahoma- Nebraska was different than most rivalries because the people of the states didn't hate each other. There might have been a little bit of Nebraska smugness about being not being a "riff raff state" and a little bit of Oklahoma smugness about Nebraska being on the frozen tundra.

But unlike any of the other big rivalries... the fans were friendly.

OU and Nebraska was really just a "high stakes" rivalry as opposed to a blood-fued rivalry like so many others.

However, there used to be an old joke in Oklahoma (of all places).

It claimed that at the Nebraska State Line there were signs that said "Welcome to Nebraska... Please turn your clocks back 20 years".

I'm sure Nebraskans felt the same way in reverse.

The only chance that tejas has of making a run in the SEC is much better O-line play, switch out their QB, and Sark knowing how to call a red zone offense. IOW, that shite ain’t happening overnight. They are toast

I usually miss half the game because of the 11:00 am start.

There is no real hate though.

Oh yeah? For years OU fans groused about Texas' dominance throughout the 60's, then came Barry Switzer and the Wishbone Offense.

Royal HATED Switzer.

I was there that day when the three guys in this pic walked onto the field of a full Cotton Bowl. It was deathly quiet in the stadium and none of the three even acknowledged each other until someone from the Oklahoma side yelled out, "Who's that a-hole between Switzer and Royal?"

That was a rivalry born of great competition and two great programs often playing that game for the right to go to the Orange Bowl.

Never wrong to yell "Go Big Red!" I miss our Nebraska brethren!

In Oklahoma we say avoid the rush, hate Texas early.

On the old LandThieves board it was the M.O.A.T.I.S.T. - The Mother of All TexAss is Suck Threads! I fricking hate TexAss, and I don't know of a Sooner fan that can root for them. This past weekend I cheered every time Florida scored! It didn't matter that it was better for us if TexAss won, A Whorn loss is always wonderful! I'm happy when they are undefeated because the tears taste better, but the two losses so far this season have made me smile as they lamented their trials and tribulations!

This next post is one I saved from 2020. If you don't recall that was the Covid year when stadiums were filled with cardboard cutouts amid the empty seats.

That game Oklahoma beat Texas in triple OT, 53-45.

This particular post was on Surly Bevo, since renamed, from a whorn fan who was demoralized by what happened in the 3rd period and no matter how many times I read it I always get a warm fuzzy from it.

From the thread Fire Tom Herman
Surly Bevo

The next loss thing if accurate is a bunch of fricking maggot infested horse shite.

I was already off the Tom wagon but in dwelling on it more this past Saturday I experienced what is my lowest moment as a Texas fan. I've been at bad losses: 2001 B12 game, all the Stoops horse frickings of Mack. I was at the game when Mackovic first shite the bed against TCU in FW and watched in horror when Charlie got drilled there in 2015. Route 66, Coin Toss Bumble frick, Houston Nutt throwing the Horns down and on and on. I've seen a lot of shite in person but Saturday was the worst. Why? Because that third quarter made me feel as utterly helpless as a fan, so helpless I felt like a hostage the Taliban is slowly ripping the finger nails out of before they ultimately cut off my head.

There in the unrelenting sun of a mostly empty Cotton Bowl I watched us come out of halftime tied only to go 3 and out (losing ~10 yards in the process) and then proceed to give up a long punt return followed by a patented OU quick strike 3 play TD drive. That was bad. Get the ball back. 3 plays and 9 yards....punt. Then finger nail by finger nail under a cloudless sky OU went on the most tortuous demoralizing drive I've ever witnessed. 17 plays of Lincoln Reilly and that rat face Spencer Rattler jamming their cocks up every single burnt orange arse who had been able to make it to the Cotton Bowl over and over and over and over until finally their 30th string RB plunged the final cock in from one yard to mercifully end it. Then three and out again and by that point the quarter was gone.

I've never felt like that as a Texas fan, it was a uniquely excruciating experience. frick you Tom Herman for that. Throwing you off the tower is too good for you.

There’s a mutual respect when it comes to the accomplishments of each in football but the hate is very strong by each fan base. You can’t go off just a small percentage of people on a board thinking there isn’t animosity between both sides.

I live in Austin and have a ton of sip friends and quite a few OU friends. There is no real hate I've ever seen. At most it is a good natured "oh yeah, we hate OU/Texas and they are our real rival" and then they gush about the other school or football program. It's a great football game but the level of hate is a joke.

No doubt both teams want to beat each other and there have been a lot of big games. That's not the same as hate. Some fan 50 years ago yelling a joking insult is your example of real hate? Kind of proves my point.

Nobody outside of Oklahoma actually roots FOR OU, they are just rooting AGAINST the sips.
