Disagree.Nebraska,Oklahoma,USC,ND,Penn State and Pittsburgh all had dominant teams in the 60's.70's,80's and 90's. Bama.was the only SEC team winning NC's in the 60's and 70's and UGA in the early 80's.UT,AU,LSU and UF all had their post integration heh day in the '90's and 00's.
Yeah, the SEC NC dominance is a relatively recent thing. It started about 20 years ago.
The only SEC schools to win an AP national championship from 1960-1995 were Alabama and Georgia. 6 for Alabama, 1 to Georgia.

Post integration perhaps but GT,Bame,UT,AU all put up NC's in the 30's,40's and 50's

More ex-slaves live in the south.
Ergo it is easier to build better football teams in the south due to easier access to better athletes.

Yeah I’m not arguing that at all, just the argument that the south has had the most dominant programs since the 60s. It’s been distributed pretty evenly until recently.
If we’re talking pre integration, it’s far more lopsided against the South.

Except the tv ratings have never been better. So his point is wrong.

In a nutshell he is stating that the South has dominated college football so much that other regions are tuning out…I think there is some truth to this. It’s not the South’s fault, or Clemson and Bama’s fault…It’s just the way things are.
I see a parallel in the rise of Southern football to the demographic shifts in this country over the past 30 years. People from the Midwest have moved to Florida, Texas, Georgia, Bama and the Carolinas in droves. How many kids who would've grown up in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana otherwise grew up in the South watching Southern football? Population shifts have seriously affected the trajectory of college football.

I actually almost gave Jimmy credit for my post.
The thing is it is 100% true.
People won't come out and say it in that fashion anymore. Instead they use weasel words to say the same thing.

It's always been regional. The CFP attempt to turn it into the Super Bowl with a different neutral site every year was a retarded idea

That's just Cowherd chuntering on and on about the decline of his beloved PAC conference.
Posted on 1/3/19 at 7:16 pm to CU_Tigers4life
CFB has always been centered in the south and south west. But the other regions have more NFL teams. It kind of evens out.
ETA: Also Cowherd is a blabbering idiot.

It's always been a regional sport - there are basically 3 regions of the country that truly care deeply about college football : The South, the Midwest and Texas/Oklahoma. The West and the Northeast have never cared, as a whole, about college football. They didn't in 1970, then didn't in 1990 and they don't in 2019.
That's it, and I don't really think that has changed.
I say it is all about money!

I can't believe they having it in San Fran this year lol

I think it hurts Northeast teams that they aren't in regional conferences. Look at Pittsburgh's division for example:
Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolin
How many people would you meet living in Pittsburgh that went to one of those schools?
There's a reason that old Big East basketball was so popular and a reason that the SEC is so popular. I can find someone tied to each SEC school easily.
That's what's always ignored in conference expansion talks. As a fan, it's hard to care about your opponents when you don't even interact with their fans.

No it hasn't.It may have been more popular but it's was
still a major draw in the Midwest and west coast.ND,Penn State,Ohio State,Michigan,Nebraska and even Army and Navy drew huge crowds and their teams also dominated in many decades.

Not really
South has always been good since the beginning. They just were not given the early media love because the early media writers were in the northeast and midwest.
Greatest college football team of all time resided in the state of Tennessee over 100 years ago (Sewanee)
Tulane before World War II was a hotbed of college football
Alabama has been a power for at least 100 years but it took a decline of Tulane for a Rose Bowl invite to get them on the national radar in the 1920's
The first team to beat an IVY in the early days was based in central KY (Centre)
Heisman affected the history of Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia Tech from 1895 to 1919. Both Auburn and Georgia Tech would be charter members of the SEC in 1932
Kentucky was the first school in the south or midwest to play football outside of the Ivy League. It would be almost a decade before another current SEC school would take up the sport.
While the B1G claims to be the oldest FBS conference via the old Western Conference, the SIAA (mother to the ACC, SEC, and SWC) is actually a year or two older

True “College Football First” States (P5 only, of course):
Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Louisiana
Mississippi
Nebraska
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Tennessee
States where college football is immensely popular and on par with other major sports:
Florida
Michigan
Ohio
Texas
Utah (they seriously love some CFB about there)
West Virginia
States where college football is certainly celebrated, but not as much as other sports:
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Simple as that.
