I see it all the time. I'm a hospice nurse. That's pretty much all I see. They keep notes like crazy. It's typically small writing, with above average penmanship. Their letters are not bubbly as in the Sumlin letter, which is why I believe it's a woman.

I believe that his wife wrote it, but there's no real evidence to the fact.

I believe that it is highly unlikely his wife did this considering there would be nothing to gain from it. Only lose big if you get caught. I believe it is highly more likely that some ignorant person wrote this (serious or trolling i am not sure).

Why would the wife write this? Can someone explain what is to be gained from her doing this?

The big concern IMO is the announcers were irresponsible to claim it came from an Aggie fan when it appears no one knows ar this point. From what we know about rivalries, is it not that much of a stretch to think it could have come from a rival just as it is not inconceivable that it came from an Aggie fan.

Making those claims as if they know the source are libelous IMO and the University should respond.

Get the attention and heat off of her husband's back as things were going poorly. Also paint A&M in a racist light if/when they fire husband.

Why??? Someone please explain why this is the most logical assumption to arrive at.

you think the plan is to risk all his buyout money because he had his feelings hurt by criticism? That's the most likely conclusion here?

It’s one thing for slubs on a sports message board to speculate but when ESPN announcers are being dogmatic about the source, then they are being very irresponsible. We have to look no further than the rioting and mayhem in Ferguson, MO that was based on erroneous reporting.

The timing of the letter.
The wording of the letter.
The misspelled return address.
No postmark.
I can't remember exactly what all led me to believe it was a set up, but these are the major things I do remember.

All circumstantial, but I'm not a judge, so I'm not required to be impartial.

No I think they are saying that if they can paint a picture that draws sympathy from others and makes it look like they are being racially profiled, that the university won’t fire Sumlin due to the kickback they would receive from fans/ media

What is there to gain from this? No one can seem to explain why his wife would risk millions of dollars in buyout money just to try and take attention off her husband it's a really dumb theory, imo, if you try to find any real risk/reward reason for her doing this.

I don’t know who was more pissed that we won. The announcers or the refs. With the exception of the Auburn game this had to be the second worst officiated game that State has played in this year. A&M was free to target Fitz every play and A&M can’t tackle unless they have their hands in the face mask. But we at least took the refs out of it this time unlike the Auburn game.

Why would they do that? Why stay at a place that doesn't want you when you can grab a buyout and move on? Why write a letter risking all the buyout money to stay at a place that is just waiting to fire you? This idea is so far fetched.

Truth is an absolute defense against libel.

The University would not and could not respond unless they 100% knew who it was from and that the person was not an Aggie Fan.

Incidentally, if Sumlin's wife sent it.. then it would also mean that it came from an Aggie fan.

Applying Occam's Razor though, it is most likely from a racist A&M fan.

Feelings hurt? my feelings are hurt because i asked for a logical explanation to an absurd narrative? People are calling the coach and his wife the racist party here when they have nothing to really gain from all of this. That doesn't strike you as odd?

While true, in this case it was dumbass, racist white people. And some people can't accept it.

They'd rather slash their wrists with Occam's Razor, screaming conspiracy theories about who "really" did it.

"I betcha the sips did it! They the real racists! frick t.u.! Woooop!!"
