What happens when the mega-wealthy donors at top 10-15 programs stop paying for this stuff?
I wonder this also. In the NFL the owners invest in players and they get a return. In college the donor who puts up the money gets no monetary return and then watches his investment walk out the door to the next highest bidder.
Without drastic changes the golden goose is about to be cooked.

far less emotional investment. If LSU loses a game now, I’m over it 5 minutes after the final whistle
Funny you bring that up. I used to wake up Sunday mornings and
if we won , let that pleasurable feeling sink in , or with a loss, to some degree
it would set the tone for the day. Honestly , either way anymore
it's over and done after the game and in general, the interest has waned.
My emotional detachment began slowly four or five years ago.

Definitely taken the shine off. I get that times change, but to me it's just become a somewhat chaotic product to follow.

I still enjoy going to games and the tailgates for the social aspect. Still find it a nice way to spend a day with friends and family. And it’s fun to talk to a little shite on the internet when we win. But I don’t really give much of a frick anymore if we lose.

I think all the commercials is why I lost interest. I have too many other things I can be doing instead of sitting on the couch watching commercials.

I still love Auburn football, but there are currently several factors making me less interested…
1. Life. Once you have kids and the busy schedule they entail… along with work, etc, it’s hard to devote the same level of interest towards CFB as I did in my early years.
2. Auburn football has just experienced our worst 5 seasons since probably the 1940s.
3. Auburn basketball is now a competing interest. It’s become very close to football for me in terms of excitement.
4. Yes, NIL, transfer portal, and conference realignments have made the game less fun.
So to answer your question, yes my interest is down. But the modern changes to the game are low on the list of why for me.

I dropped my season tickets after the 2016 season as I could sense the football program was going down the toilet.
Bert was fired a year later.
Chad Morris was a lazy hire that was disastrous.
Then they screwed around and lost out on Kiffin.
Hired a washed up OL coach.
I'm done.

It’s been a long run. I saw my first live college game in 1958, Bear Bryant’s first game at Alabama which featured the eventual National Champion and the next years Heisman winner. The first game I saw on TV was Notre Dame ending the Oklahoma 47 game win streak. I probably couldn’t count all the games I’ve seen in person. I was a 20 year season ticket holder. It is just not the same when players are in a revolving door. Oh well, it was a good run.

Those NC winning teams always cost $50M. It was just all done under the table hush-hush. Only SMU got caught and punished. The NCAA looked the other way with the rest of the cheaters.

A lot of programs should have been given the death penalty.

I do have an interest but the thrill isn’t as strong.
Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio S, etc have been dropping millions in players for over a decade now

So why are life long fans college fans dropping out now?
It may eventually balance out, but for now it's total bull$hit.

I used to pay attention to HS recruiting, now who cares
Overall, I agree with the feeling

I’ll still root for the Tide, but I don’t get into recruiting near as much, or pay near as much attention in the off-season because things change so often. Then you hear about the Tennessee situation in the playoffs where you had players considering sitting out. It kinda makes you sick to your stomach. When I was that age, I would’ve paid big money for an opportunity to play for Bama and some of these kids won’t do it for a million bucks

I am increasingly getting more anxious for the fall.

I would rather have the NIL/Portal players just go straight to an NFL farm league and have college amateur students play college sports.
But I'm an old gen Xer who ain't cool no more...so if some dummy wants to drop a million on a high school 17 yr old to walk away when their feeling get hurt...so be it. :)
