Schools tried to get Gary Patterson to leave TCU unsuccessfully for many years in a row.

A level of interest and reasonable expectations of landing the coach has to be in play here. Coaches like Saban was never attainable and only Texas tried to make a legitimate move to get him.

Kiffin flirts with all kinds of schools.

Umm ... Saban.

Texas wanted him so bad.

And LSU wanted him so hard.

Agreed, but he asked if any had been as wanted as Kiffin.

Everybody wanted Saban. LSU still does. Only Texas thought they had a chance to actually get him.

Saban is like the lottery. Everyone wishes at some point of their life they'd become filthy rich over night. LSU is no real threat to steal Saban.

Kiffin is more like a cinnabon pastry hot and moist, oozing with icing sitting on your kitchen counter while your wife says you cant eat it. You're so close to it you can taste it. Kiffin fills your five senses enough to go mad for it. So you pout and pout and ruin your wife's day for good reason.

I don't think he's as wanted as people think.

Not to say nobody wants him, but that people have been extra stupid this year when it comes to coaches and so forth and I doubt 90% of it is based on reality.

I mean sure schools want him, but who is willing to pay him the high numbers? Yeah anyone will take Kiffin for cheaper numbers, but is anyone going to pay $15+ a year to snag him?

We'll see how much money he ends up getting paid.

Will muschamp. Kirby smart. Matt Campbell. Art briles. Jon gruden. Saban urban Meyer and sos at various career points. How much time you got? Every year there’s a can’t miss coach somewhere and every year there’s several fan bases who think they deserve better and said coach should want to coach there. Every year like clockwork.

Everyone tried to get Chris Petersen when he was at Boise.

After Texas got their teeth kicked in by the shitbox Sooners for the 2nd time in 4 years (and 4th consecutive loss) in 2003 I wanted him but he was still just the Boise OC at the time.

Once he broke the Sooner hearts in 2006 and Texas had won the NC in 2005 I was ok. I still would rather have had him than Mack Brown though.

People are going to have to temper their expectations with next year's schedule going to 9 SEC + 1 P4

Don’t know why in the hell the SEC agreed to this. The Big10 is not deep and them playing 9 games means nothing.

I don't think they want the system to be merit based anymore.

Bob Stoops turned down Notre Dame, Florida twice, and the Cleveland Browns to stay at OU.

Based on the 17 year melt around here, Saban appears to have been somewhat wanted.

Kiffin is definitely the best option for any team looking for a coach.

Currently the best coach to poach. All the other elite ones are locked up by their steep buyout contracts.
