This is incorrect. A guy like Dylan Moses is probably going to make the NFL. If he needs to make money he should go play in the CFL right now. He can sign a three year contract and be eligible for the NFL draft once that has expired. He can also just not play football for three years and work a job and work out continuously. He could even go work for an NFL team as a staff member and receive coaching while getting paid. If he needs the money he needs to do this

You're wrong. The NFL is nothing like MLB or the NBA....look at the major European soccer leagues and how they are structured.

about players getting paid. He said that most of the money that players get from boosters or whomever, goes back home to their mother or grandmother for things like what we saw in the Tunsil text messages. He told me of a story about one player that got like $2500.00 after a big game back in 2000. He said the player sent $1500.00 back home with his mom and he kept $1000.00. I know it isn't right by the letter of the NCAA's law, but not all of these guys are tpos that blow through the money, some actually look out for their loved ones. It's not, nor it should be, a child's responsibility to take care of a household, but some circumstances are not in their control. I commend Tunsil for looking out for his mom, it is obvious his pos step dad wasn't.

Regardless of how "honorable" their intentions are, it's against NCAA rules... IMO the rules MUST be black and white otherwise we have the LT and Albert Mean type shite shows!!

TO eliminate those type issues, how bout the NCAA pass a rule ALL schools have a set amount(50K a year) that is set aside for financially troubled IMMEDIATE family members.. The paperwork is submitted to the school and as long as it follows NCAA guidelines, the school approves it and there is a paper trail. Problem solved..

That is a great idea, but it will get voted down because most schools can't afford it.

yeah that would open a huge can of worms. if you have 50k to play with, that money is going to like 4 of each team's highest recruiting targets

How bout making it a one time benefit... The family member must submit proof(ie. electric bill and paperwork showing a disconnection notice) or receipt showing that the gift was used for food..

Of course this isn't a perfect idea BUT it's a step in the right direction IMO..

It is a system that has been around for years. Most programs had a go to coach for funding. HC wasn't directly involved in order to allow deniability. NCAA turned a blind eye, unless it involved recruiting.

Tunsil should have declined to play college football and gotten a job so he could take care of his Mom if he needed to or gone to the CFL

Yeah, this would have made no sense.

Which is going to look dumb in retrospect when future lawsuits completely blow the lid off of the NCAA model. Judges eventually are going to side with the players if the whole sport doesn't get more proactive on paper.

Since when has it ever been the responsibility of the school to take care of student's families?

I was told by a Bama athlete that they used to get paid at halftime and after the game based on performance.

Players get cash in some way, shape, or form at every school. Some know directly who it is from and how to contact that person. Some don't.

There are a million ways that the rules get skirted:
Go to a friendly store and pick out tons of clothes, shoes, etc and tell the person at checkout you forgot your wallet. Hold it behind counter for you under fake name and you'll be back to get it. Someone else later comes and pays for it for you.

i know of a current NFL player from an sec school who in college would regularly have a box show up at his door on Sunday morning by 4am. Inside the box would be packing paper except at the bottom there would be two to five stacks depending on how things went the day before.

It's not unique to one place, but usually the staff is smart enough to stay clear and clean from being connected to it (certain exceptions, of course)
