Gus is an idiot if he takes a reduced buyout. Maybe money doesn't motivate him - maybe he truly loves Auburn

I think he truly does love Auburn. He donated a lot of his salary this year towards the football facility.

He's like the HS kid who got lucky and dating the Prom Queen... way outta his league ... now he will do anything to stay with it, even if it's the worst decision ever!

Saw this earlier today... too good not to use as a sig for a while... At least until Gus tells Auburn admin to get fricked regarding reduced buyout. If he accepts, he's either a world class idiot, there is something that is not being disclosed either that he is getting or that he is afraid may prevent him from getting all of his buyout, OR Jimmy Sexton will have to disown him as a client to not take blowback on the shitty negotiations...

He’s betting he can turn it around next year. That’s why he’d accept a reduced buyout. He doesn’t get the full contract if he’s bought out. He gets it if he stays.

After this year, what is remaining on Gus' actual deal? 42 Million roughly? If he gets canned, he makes 32 of that... to not work... If the number was 15-18, you might have a point, but making a gamble that Auburn will definitely keep him around for another 6 years pending the outcome of next season is simply not a reasonable proposition. Particularly with the "scheduling disadvantage" that Auburn likes to complain about with Bama/UGA road/road or home/home in same years.

By and large, coaches don't survive "one more year to prove [something]" scenarios... Gus would be best to let Auburn fire him and move on. Get picked up by a school that doesn't have Alabama (and to a slightly lesser degree, UGA) on the schedule every season... Good chance he could win the Pac12 right now with a half decent roster. He could easily challenge in the opposite half of the ACC from Clemson.

If Gus accepts the lowering of the buyout he is the #1 'Auburn Man' of all time. There would be no question of his love or sacrifice for Auburn.

If someone told me you can either stay employed because you really really believe in yourself, or I can cut you a check for $15 million right now, I would say I fricking suck and take the money, and so would any rational human being.

Not really.

Let’s say you’ve already made millions of dollars so you’re not hurting for money. Someone offers you $15 mill to leave now or $30 million if you finish out the contract with a reduced buyout to $10 million.

Smart decision is to keep working. And we still don’t know how much his buyout has been reduced.
