I believe Tennessee is actually more hated than Auburn. Auburn is just Little Brother. It's a bigger rivalry because it's closer, like family.

If someone in our fanbase considers LSU our main rival I can pretty much guarentee you that they became a fan after Saban arrived.

Your guarantees are worthless, then.

So I will fill in the gaps:
Northeastern State, er, I mean U of Louisiana @ Monroe
beat Bama during their time in hell when
coaches were falling like apples and La Tech beat them around then too.

Very informative. Now the OP can wonder why this is relevant.

I bet the OP does not get the joke.

Probably because it's old and lame as frick.

ULM was Saban's first year. And Tech was 12 or so years ago.

We lost to Troy on national television during Pinkel's first or second year, so no comment.

Tennessee being down just makes me want to beat them even more. Them being bad doesn't make the rivalry any less important. If they suck and we lose to them, its gonna suck arse so much more and make us look bad

The Gump's third biggest rival after West Georgia & Tennesse is Mike Dubose. However the Dubose rivalry is complicated. The Opp Alabama native can be a friendly rival in an argument example: "Even Mike Dubose won the SEC." or he can be villianized the excuse a period of sub par performance

People were talking about UF/Bama in the championship game for the foreseeable future.

Eh, Florida couldn't live up to their end of the bargain.

I could see why LSU would want to be our rival, but what LSU fans dont get is that rivalries dont just pop up because your old coach now coaches at UA.

It's not like we ever "wanted" to be your rival. But when your old coach goes to a team that is a historically successful program in the SAME division in the BEST conference in the land...

Well, if you can't see how the hate would be generated from that, you are truly mental.

FWIW, Here are my top 5 hated teams/rivals in the SEC:

1.Arkansas-nothing feels better than beating that piggie/hillbilly behind like we did last year.

2.Alabama-Never really cared about them until after Saban got there and we didn't beat them EVERY year. Now that they are very good they are hated.

3.Auburn-Is USUALLY a tough battle between two good teams. Last year was boring, i've come to expect more from AU, and they usually come to play.

4.Florida-Same as AU, they are usually very good but have been in a slump lately. I'm sure they'll be back to prominence soon enough, but it feels good to say "it sucks to be a flawda gator" and know that it's true at that time

Nice. Hell last time LSU played Troy the stadium was empty after halftime. Troy was leading by 28 pts in the 3rd qtr with only a few minutes left.

It isn't a matter of understanding or not understanding the hate. It's a matter of not reciprocating it.

Oh and another FWIW:

I know all gump fans probably assume all LSU fans hate saban. That is not so. I never liked him while he was at LSU, he was a great coach, but a real dick. But I never HATED him. I respect the guy, he can flat out coach.

LSU did beat Troy; same can't be said for Saban w/ Bama vs. ULM.

ETA: the road to Shreveport does go through Monroe......

Tennessee. 2nd best program in the league.

They'd better get off their arse soon if they want to stay there though, LSU and Florida are in the rear view mirror and gaining fast.
