“We had a productive meeting on Monday and engaged in discussions on a number of important issues that will contribute to critical decisions to be made in the weeks ahead,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. “The ability to personally interact over the course of an entire day contributed to the productivity of the meeting.

“It is clear that current circumstances related to COVID-19 must improve and we will continue to closely monitor developments around the virus on a daily basis,” Sankey said. “In the coming weeks we will continue to meet regularly with campus leaders via videoconferences and gather relevant information while guided by medical advisors. We believe that late July will provide the best clarity for making the important decisions ahead of us.”

Here's some more stuff from The Advocate in Baton Rouge after the meeting...
quote:

"We have to see a change in public health trend to build the comfort that we'll have an opportunity to compete this fall," Sankey told ESPN's Paul Finebaum on Monday evening.

quote:

The SEC has members in 11 states, and seven have 40,001 or more COVID-19 cases this year, the highest category in the CDC's database. The increase of cases in the region in the past few weeks is "not a positive factor," Sankey told Finebaum, though he said the league will analyze similar data before it reaches a final decision on the season.

quote:

"I'm done with predictions; I'm done with models," Sankey said. "We're going to look at facts, and that's what we've been doing diligently for months now and will do over the next few weeks."

quote:

"Things are going to have to improve and get better, but we have time," LSU athletic director Scott Woodward said. "This thing has had trends go up and down, and hopefully they'll go down and people will take what's going on seriously. Because if not, it's going to be difficult for us to safely play these games."

quote:

Woodward said "I'm still planning like I'm playing opening weekend," a sentiment that he said was shared by most of the athletic directors who attended Monday's meeting. If teams can play, they'll play, Woodward said, but they'll have to "listen to the health experts and go forth from there."

That's not good. The "must improve" part of that makes me think that College Football will not happen this fall.

That's what I took away from it too. The must improve part could mean with the virus itself or how they're dealing with it. He may as well have said "we have no news at this time."

Not really. It’s pretty clear that this won’t be any better in a month from now when schools are supposed to start.

It does leave open the possibility of a delayed season though if by say November or December things look better.

That being said, I think it’s about a 10% chance we will have a football season this year.

Stankey is a turrible leader. Just cancel the season already. My Arkansas Undefeated Fall Champs trophy gets here tomorrow.

Every country in Europe is handling this virus better than the United States.

Yes which is why blaming China for our issues now is a dullard stance to take

Here’s the thing Sankey doesn’t seem to get. If all of the other conferences go to conference-only games, it doesn’t matter what the SEC decides to do. By default, they have to go to conference-only games too for the simple reason everyone else already has. There would be no choice.

The other conferences are getting ahead of it, therefore dictating what the SEC will be forced to do. If they wait until the end of July to make a decision, but everyone else has already made theirs, then by default the SEC’s decision will be made for them. They will have no other non-conference games to play because they have all decided not to play them.

Which countries specifically?

England just opened pubs for the first time last week...
Their economy isn't even remotely where any state is in the us. Italy and France haven't fully opened up as well.

Question still stands.
