A day after the ACC announced both Notre Dame and Clemson will have an open date Dec. 12, a week before the ACC championship game in Charlotte, North Carolina, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey told CBS Sports he has no intention of tweaking his conference’s schedule.

“We committed to playing a 10-game schedule, which is certainly unique to see some other decisions this week,” Sankey told CBS Sports. He referred to the ACC indicating “one direction and they changed at the last minute."

“We’re still moving forward with the opportunity for all 14 of our teams to play 10 games.”

With the ACC’s move, the Irish had been scheduled to play Wake Forest, and Clemson didn’t have a game. As a result of the schedule change, Notre Dame, Clemson and Miami will be judged on a nine-game conference schedule. Notre Dame holds the tiebreakers and has secured a spot in the game based on the changes as it plays one-win Syracuse on Saturday. A Clemson win over Virginia Tech Saturday would secure the other spot.

“I was surprised to see the announcement,” Sankey told CBS Sports. “It begs one question: If their two most highly ranked teams were, for instance, (ranked) five and six in the CFP Rankings, would this decision have been made?”

Think the sec needs to cancel games as well. Don't need Fl or Bama getting players injured playing games that aren't necessary.

Sankey is right. Let the schedule play out. When kids opt out it's a bad look. When teams like LSU and Florida State and maybe Michigan opt-out before playing their biggest rival it's a bad look regardless of what's going on.

And what the ACC just did is the exact same situation. The conference opted-out of the rest of the season to preserve its entries. And in this instance, opted-out is just code for quit.

It's been amazing that all these leaders of men have cowardly chosen to quit when they had a choice. Sankey deserves a lot of credit for making sure SEC teams don't have the option.

It's about TV revenue
The money conference gets for more games helps the bottom line which is going to be on life support for the next couple of years

So FSU gets Duke and UVA but doesn’t have to play Clemson now.

I was waiting for this thread...

Is this the same SEC Commissioner that decided that they would not play non conference game? The ACC allowed one game extra to provide those rivalries in the SEC SEC to be played.

The ACC, like the SEC normally played an 8 game schedule with the two best teams getting that 9th game. Well guess what? The ACC's best teams will play 9 games.

So when the scared to play talk circulates make sure you include the scare to play the ACC teams

What Florida vs FSU?

Clemson vs South Carolina

UGA vs Tech

Kentucky vs Louisville

Are any of these game competitive, probably not...plus it left both leagues no option to reschedule games. Simply the ACC posturing before season started.

That last one would be pretty competitive.

It would just suck.

Think Swofford is hinting to Notre Dame to bench their starters before the game or at half of the ACC Championship game to ensure Clemson and ND make the playoffs?

I can see the future headlines now: "LSU AD praises ACC for 'bold and forward-thinking move' in cancelling Dec 12th games; bemoans 'lack of leadership' by SEC Office"

Ok..Let's try it from another point of view since the avoiding playing ACC teams isn't working.

As of now, the ACC has played 60 conference games and 14 non conference games for a total of 74 games. The SEC as of now have played a total of 55 conference games and zero non conference games.

What this means is Stanky made decisions at the beginning of the season that he felt was best for the SEC SEC and Swofford is making decisions now that are in the best interest of the ACC.

Let's point something out here.....the ACC's 9th game COULD ONLY BE PLAYED @ the ACC team's home field (or was it the ACC team's state?).

Sounds very childish to make a 1-sided offer & then whine when nobody accepts.
