Sankey is a career 'compliance' expert with regards to NCAA guidelines with his Masters in Ed from Syracuse -
he is not a CFO or Exec with any proven experience to handle the *business* that is college sports -
Sankey's 'compliance' expertise does the SEC little good when negotiating any contract or market positioning for the business side of sports the league requires -
it's hard to fathom with all the revenue the SEC generates that at the very least SEC HQ (Sankey) doesn't have a network of legal and business professionals on retainer to navigate non-educational affairs -
we can mock the Big 12 for many things - they made a smart move in acquiring Brett Yormark as its newest commissioner in the current landscape of college sports - the SEC Universities should consider a similar path -

All True.
I think the next billion dollar bidder is going to be Netflix or Prime. The pure value to be gained in subscribers from the SEC rabid nature will elevate those services. The next round is not going to be channel driven, but platform driven.
If we blow this and don’t jump the B10 it’ll be an all time fumble.

This is interesting to me.
The ACc and Big10 are over extended distance wise tk California.
Meanwhile we are somewhat radial to to time zones.
I am not saying g that now it’s easy tk drive from Columbia SC tk Austin for a game, but I am saying that compactness is still a good idea for 16 teams.
But owning two other time zones might help with TV….but I am more inclined tk have our 8games (or usually 7) of the day spread from 12 eastern to 8eastern.
I was in Turks and Caicos last week and a pissed off Clemson fan said he was not even gonna watch the game because it kicked off at 10:30.
That affects viewership as well. Not to mention the fact that Stafford in California are absolute dog shite as football programs.

Who has the authority to fire Sankey? SEC Presidents? They need to. The SEC could do so much better.

I think you might be right. Netflix or Prime could easily bid on it. I just wonder if they have the equipment and logistics network needed to broadcast multiple SEC games on a given Saturday. It would be a big startup cost for them. But they can afford it.
I would be interested to see if CBS is willing to place a large bid to get the SEC back. There is no way they are happy with the games they are getting.

Something tells me Prime is going to plop their big balls on the table come SEC negotiation time. They and Netflix have so much more cash than the old networks and that includes Disney.

This is generally a terrible way to hire a successor. Yet it happens often. Sankey is very unimpressive, and the SEC deserves much better. For you Sankey defenders out there, what is his signature achievement? Where has he shown forward thinking leadership?

The broken piece we should all recognize is there are a bunch of teachers and public official administrators who run these schools and by extension oversee extremely valuable sports/media franchises. They have no executive or strategic skills with which to manage them.
Of course they’d get taken advantage of by Slive, Sankey, Sexton, chasing media narratives, peer pressure (Big10), etc., etc. They’re fundamentally not leaders
